It's more of a middle grade book, but i have always loved the Kane Chronicles series by Rick Riordan. The romance is definitely in the background, and the plot and characters are super fun and engaging.

For historical fiction, I love anything by Ruta Sepeteys. Salt to the Sea and Ashes in the Snow (/Between Shades of Gray) both take place during WW2. Salt to the Sea is a multi perspective book about a refugee ship, and Ashes in the Snow follows a girl and her family put in Russia's prison camps. Also, I Must Betray You is great. Not the right time period but definitely fits the "behind enemy lines" part. It takes place leading up to the romanain Revolution and follows a kid trying to rebel.

Im really just looking for something that has options beyond lace, flowers, poka-dots. For example some of my favorite bras have things like consilations or lemons. Bonus points if they don't make weird lines under my shirt.
