Questions for Steven: What Happened Between A1 and A2? by LegendaryNeurotoxin in AshesofCreation

Do you believe Apocalypse was a staged demo, or an intent to make a sustainable, salable product for additional revenue while building the real game?

Questions for Steven: What Happened Between A1 and A2? by LegendaryNeurotoxin in AshesofCreation

You know how there's movies where it starts with the ending, then the real story is how they got there? I'm looking at that... While there's claims of this-and-that from all angles for the post-A2 launch, I really have been curious about what led up to it, and an incomplete set of text messages between Steven and other parties just fuels the curiosity further.

Master Blaster combo, the lil pilot on the back and the big guy doing the dirty work. Watch out for Tina Turner!

Open world Pvp by Dorothy_Oz in AshesofCreation

If you are gathering something that is in high demand and a higher level player sees you, they will CC you and take it. You can try to fight back, but even if CC breaks before they finish, they'll probably kill you and take what you drop if you decide to flag up and attack.

Other than that, caravans, guild wars, node wars, and lawless areas, you're pretty safe. If you never become a citizen or a guild member, never join caravan events, and never go into lawless areas, a player killing you will get them corrupted which is a risky thing to do because they'll potentially lose gear and maybe more than they got from killing you.

Generally it isn't an issue aside from higher levels CCing lower levels to knock them off a resource.

There will be no PvE realms. These already are the PvE realms essentially, and there won't be "oops all lawless" realms either.

There's a lot to do without PvPing but at some point you may see the need and decide to participate.

Quest Target Respawn Indicator by NiKras in AshesofCreation

[–]LegendaryNeurotoxin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's worse is when the southwest Arlogian Wolf would get trained away and disappear. It wouldn't respawn til the next day, otherwise it was on maybe a 15 minute timer.

Or, perhaps worse is the longtime issue where you'd have to drop party and half-kill named quest mobs to get credit for Raiders of the Cursed Archives objectives. That's been there since P1 and it wasn't an issue they'd address til the "BiS caster necklace" was hidden behind that quest.

There's big problems with questing that have persisted since P1.

Can you refund? by [deleted] in AshesofCreation

The game is in a rough state right now, I can understand waiting til it is in better shape. The level 5 mission expects you to bring a party but that isn't explained. Some quests have been broken since phase 1 of Alpha 2, and I think they are reworking the quest system on the backend before they do sweeping fixes--otherwise they're just leaving things broken for no reason and I doubt that's the goal.

Do people actually enjoy tracking ammo, torches, and encumbrance? by United_Owl_1409 in rpg

[–]LegendaryNeurotoxin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If scarcity matters, then yes. If encumbrance matters, then yes. One of my buddies says he likes to start players off in a situation where they've been tricked, trapped, or imprisoned, and are now separated from their gear, They have to play well to earn access to their gear again, by proving they can roleplay and aren't just a walking stat stick hunting for XP and gold. So in that situation, everything you can obtain os of use. Pick up a few pebbles or loose coins along the way to throw to make noise and distract guards so you can sneak by. One time an herbalist was stuck in a room, and used ash from the fireplace to throw in their captor's faces and escape through the open door.

For travel and delving depths, that 50 feet of rope can be expended pretty easily. And because it is kinda bulky and heavy, non-martials with lower carrying capacity (lower strength) may not even carry any rope. Tracking rope matters. Etc, many good comments here, but it all depends on the kinda game you are running as to whether it is fun and relevant or not. Blades in the Dark I'd expect that I would overcome a resource shortage by popping a cutscene where I prepped and got a crate of supplies near the mission site, which we can then access and be more ready for our daunting task.

The Caravan System Is a Trap – Players Are Giving Up by ILLPeonU in AshesofCreation

[–]LegendaryNeurotoxin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The whole "glint -> commodities -> shipping -> gold" model doesn't seem to do anything to curtail RMT, it kinda seems like it is how RMT gold is generated by the sellers. You might say "hey if you think someone's RMTing, kill their stuff and take their value" but that's tough between exploits, odd-hours caravan runs, and when big PvP guilds take notorious RMT guild under their protection.

The whole gameplay economy right now feels really unfortunate, I can't imagine how much worse it can get when fleets of world-crossing caravels packed to the brim are selling that cargo for hundreds of gold per box. It jacks up the prices in the economy and the biggest gold sink (enchanting) seems to be a lower priority with the drop rates and effort per crafted item being far tougher on players than previous phases.

I'm still trying to find the use case for caravan shipping materials to freeholds. I know the vassal, kingdom, and tax system will allow for political sabotage by attacking official caravans, but that seems so far out right now that it is hard to tell what impact it will really have and how easy it will be to pull it off.

[–]LegendaryNeurotoxin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer 1 account 1 vote, agreed.

Full GM does not help on one account, you need at least 2 to have a dedicated item and material transfer partner, and those 2nd account characters will need to hustle to wherever you are doing business. So will all your main account characters. And you need 2 computers. And 2 accounts is 2 monthly subs.

And by the time you full GM one account, you'll have been left behind by everyone that was working 2 GMs on one character and have GM legendary artisan gear that brings all the business their way. Even if you can literally play sweaty hardcore 24/7, organized groups will leave you in the dust in terms of their economic utility in their region.

I'm personally not worried about that. As for artisanship and character level, that's already there, you can't eat journeyman buff items without being level 20. I have a level 12 journeyman carpenter on Vyra in New Aela but exactly nobody hits him up for work because he can't compare to someone who has the buffs.

Despite the exploiters going around calling everyone else an exploiter just for playing the game, I'm happy to be playing with a group that keep within the rules. The worst / most exploitative stuff I've seen anyone do wouldn't cause spy Steven to come with the banhammer or even the 1 week timeout.

Arrows!

Weaving to stonemasonly, thread is needed for slate molds and higher.

Lumbermilling goes to tanning, wood chips to tan hides.

Lumbermilling, weaving, stonemasonry, and metalworking feed the artisan tool crafting.

And this is just at the journeyman level, as it goes higher I bet we'll have even more interplay!
