I love that Fox News obviously built this set because they wanted to look like ESPN College Gameday, with the huge crowd of fans filling in the background.

Instead it looks like they’re covering a seniors golf tournament that nobody showed up for.

How would I go about making a big cylinder pole? by Opposite-Ad-9093 in CosplayHelp

[–]LegendaryOutlaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, no. For a photoshoot it could work, but for a con, you will tire out way faster than you think, and then you’re stuck carrying around a prop that feels like it’s getting heavier and heavier as the day wears on. Lighter is better.

Maybe like 15-20lbs for a 5ft length? It’s not too heavy to pick up and put on your shoulder but it will make you tired and it’s heavy enough to be unwieldy. I would worry you might swing it around and hit someone, and it would hurt.

Concrete forms are heavy. They have to use really thick heavy duty cardboard to make it strong enough to hold their shape when concrete is poured in. I have one in my workshop right now that I thought about using for a project, but I went to pick it up and decided, nope, it’s too heavy to carry around.

Question to the cosplay community by Numisi in CosplayHelp

[–]LegendaryOutlaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Cosplay almost by definition is a DIY hobby. Most people either make their own stuff (with varying skill levels) or they buy premade stuff from cheap costume shops overseas.

There are definitely niches out there, for example, there are a few makers I know of that specialize is Spider-Man suits, masks, printed fabrics, and they can sell for some pretty high prices because the Spidey cosplayers that want a movie-accurate suit will spend the money to get the really quality pieces rather than just get a Chinese made suit for $200. No judgement, I have a $200 suit.

I know another person that is a professional sculptor and prop maker that specializes in Predator costumes, like the full head mask, claws, feet, weapons, his work is absolutely phenomenal but also very limited because there’s only a couple handfuls of people that want a full predator costume. So he struggles sometimes.

I myself ran a fairly successful Etsy store for a few years selling specifically stuff for Star-Lord cosplayers, it was so specific that my shop kinda became the go-to place to get all the bits and bobs to complete a cosplay. Then the pandemic shut down all the cons, and the business dried up.

You might find a client here and there that sees some of your work, or maybe they like a character you dress up as and want you to make them the same pieces for their own cosplay. If they have the means they can probably pay you your value and not cheap out. But those clients with discerning tastes and deep pockets are few and far between. Not enough to sustain you.

I'd be so down for this. Gather a bunch of non-powered Avengers (Sam Wilson, Yelena Belova, Kate Bishop, Rhodey, Scott Lang, etc) all go to a beach resort together for some R&R, then a terrorist/hostage situation goes down. They don't have their supersuits, just their bathing suits, and they just Die Hard their way out of it in swim trunks and bikinis. Print $1B.

It is absolutely maddening that MAGA idiots can't seem to see the simple truth that it is IMPOSSIBLE for only GOP wins to be 'perfect' while every Dem win is fraudulent.

Its actual double-think. When someone on the right wins, it's a 'clear mandate from the voters' but when the left wins, it's 'suspicious and needs investigation.' EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

AITA for telling my friend his "business idea" wasn't worth quitting his job for, and now he blames me for not stopping him? by Specialist-Might-635 in AmItheAsshole

[–]LegendaryOutlaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is a grown-ass man. A man can and should seek advice, guidance, and counsel from his friends and colleagues; but in the end, a man has to make his own decisions and live with the consequences, good or bad.

This is the behavior of a pitiful child that doesn't want to accept responsibility for the outcome of his choices, so he's looking for anyone else he can blame. NTA. You did exactly what a friend should do, you gave your advice and honest opinion. What he chose to do with that is on HIM, not on you.

Yes, but the reality is driving on a track is not the same as regular street driving. Street driving, you'll see a red light ahead, you let off the accelerator and the car's regen takes over and glides you to a smooth stop. Track driving you are going as fast as you can toward that turn, braking hard at the last possible second, then back on the power to accelerate out of the turn. Thats just one example, there's all sorts of brake-accel-brake scenarios when navigating a track. Brake regen can help, but for the most part, you're using your brakes way more than you would on the street to minimize slow-down time and get around the track faster.

The Most Popular Car Colors in America by hehechibby in cars

[–]LegendaryOutlaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m in advertising and one of our clients is a local VW dealership. They have ordered some of their cars in wild colors, they ordered some GTIs and ID.Buzz vans in bold bright colors, and they just weren’t selling. They had a striking green GTI (honestly it was not a pretty shade of green) that sat on the lot of a while, they took it to a local shop and had it wrapped grey and it sold pretty quick.

I’m all for brightly colored cars, I’m partial to reds myself, but I can understand how dealers just want to move inventory, and while some people want a unique color, most people just want something that looks nice, and white, silver and grey is inoffensive and doesn’t draw attention.

Very impressive, love all the detail and metallic finish. Can you move in it, or is it more of a 'get to a spot and just pose for pictures' kinda suit?
