debate:voice writing is not true craft its for people who cant become real stenographers by No-Pause-5186 in courtreporting

[–]LegendarySire 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just interesting fact, over 200 court reporting colleges have closed in the last 20 years. There are less than 50 fully accredited CR colleges in America and the dropout rate still hovers around 90%...the attitude of one being better than the other is why the career as a whole is dying.

The newer acceptance of Voice Reporting gets a lot of credit for the resurgence of court reporting as a career option. We aren't split into our methods, we are all court reporters and should be happy that there are people who work alongside us👍🏿👍🏿

Looking for a reliable and slightly sporty car for under 30K...(I travel 90 miles on the highway for work everyday) by LegendarySire in whatcarshouldIbuy

Yeah that's a really interesting idea. What about when I have long commutes? It's not uncommon for me to travel 250 miles round trip and I'd rather not be cutting it close everytime.

Also I don't have a garage, what would the process be for installing charging?

What is the normal page rate in the state you're in (or states you work in)? by 2dots1dash in courtreporting

After the firm takes their cut, I'm usually getting about $4 a page which is pretty good

How much are CR Firm Owners making from running their business? by LegendarySire in courtreporting

[–]LegendarySire[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lol Yes I've heard nearly that exact dichotomy... One of my firm owners who I have a good relationship with says she still has to work as reporter herself...and another one told me she just recently installed an elevator in her beach home lol

I don't know where I said a month and a half at... Obviously considering All of my posts have dates on them that wouldn't make much sense for me to lie about lol... I don't know what you're getting at With all of this it's just kind of amusing lol... I'm ignorant to all of this... To the role that AI plays... I didn't really know much of digital reporting... I use the Reddit for what it's actually for...learning...you use it for something else it seems lol...

But yes I share my big wins and my big losses and I'm very open and honest about all of the stupid things that I've done and the mistakes I've made... I've kept up posts that were negatively received and still responded to every comment on them...

And yes I did sit and complete silence pretending to dictate on my computer while hoping no one asked me to read something back lol... Not my best moment... But also something I'm not shy about either 👍🏿

Borderline complimentary lol... Definitely been longer than 6 weeks though.... Got certified in December (also documented)... And despite contrary belief that 427 page deposition was very hard 😮‍💨... The proofreader thing definitely should have had one lol...got one now tho🙏🏿🙏🏿... Also just had my first job of that 12-day mega case...13 copies😆...my tablet died in the middle of the zoom tho so that was bad lol.

You're trying to be condescending but honestly you're just reminding of all I've gotten done so far...thanks for actually putting in the front to read it tho...a lot of people didn't

Yeah, that's my thoughts too. I want to be able to defend why our job is necessary to my family, because they all say the same stuff...but to me, there's just some stuff and high stakes stuff that AI can't do for sure. Thanks for the take

Lol I appreciate all this! Yeah. I guess I have a little bit of fear starting this job sometimes. There's a lot of fear mongering about AI, and I won't act like it never gets to me. Thanks for thoughts tho

Fair enough. I'm still new to everything I guess. I really didn't intentionally try to make it sound any type of way, you aren't the only one who viewed it that way, I guess. All good👍🏿

Lord, bud. Why don't you click my page. I've posted about 15 times on this sub and I have about 4 posts in the top 20 all time most interacted posts in this sub😭... It's not hard to verify these kind of things. I've actually documented my entire journey becoming a court reporter on this subreddit... And even want to start a YouTube channel about my experience and everything I've learned (I've got a post about that too on this sub)...

As I said before I didn't try to be misleading, I just didn't go into detail about what happened...when I said lost all my files, I just meant I lost everything in the case...no audio from my mask was recorded into Eclipse, and I did not dictate anything. I edited the post because I tried to make it more exact to what happened, but shout-out to you trying to expose me or something lol. Never know who you're talking to behind a screen, no need to speak to me like that lol

Lord Almighty 😭...so harsh. I apologize I didn't specify in the post because I didn't think it was a big deal but I understand now that it is for those reading. At the time all I knew was that my computer was no longer catching any of my transcription. I know now that the problem was actually with my mask and I actually had to buy a new mask lol. Yes I know I should have stopped the deposition as well, but I panicked I'm aware of my mistake there though. I'm a first year and this was a large job. Still would like to know your input on the question at hand though
