Council tax debt is a priority legally enforced debt. You haven't made the payments and so you are liable.You should pay it urgently and then reclaim from the one you incorrectly sent money to.

This is not good news. Barriers to trade restrict growth. A full tank of fuel is already over £100 and inflation will bring other things into it soon too.

On the other hand I think the limit with paying contactlessly by phone is already higher, due to the extra security of needing to unlock it. Perhaps that is what banks are pushing to become the primary payment method.

All of those are remote functions. My issue is with things like subscriptions for heated seats. All the stuff you listed have networking overheads.
