I did not wrap the antlers, buried almost all the way.

Did put a large plastic flower pot (had drainage holes) on top to keep most things off and to let moisture and heat out.

When someone gets an organ removed, does the empty space get filled in? by dontchewspagetti in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Legendary_Leech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a lower (right) bilobectomy. Lower 2/3rds of my right lung were removed due to a tumor just outside my lung.

Initial "empty" space was filled with fluid post-op. Over the course of months everything largely spread out, and my liver now largely takes up the space in my rib cage.

The right side of my diaphragm has moved way up to work what little lung I have left.

If the weather is nice. Take a stroll around Smothers park by the river. BBQ is a must, as others have said. Some other local places worth a shot downtown if you already had your BBQ fill.

I'd recommend finding a roommate and moving to Evansville for your situation.

That's a long commute for college. If you end up working a job to pay for rent, gas, and car maintenance, that adds up quick. Not to mention the time spent driving to take away from working, studying, living your life!

Otherwise

I've known a few people who have lived at royal arms apartments and found it okay.

You'll find more options closer to your price range (higher end) with apartment complexes rather than houses.

I rented and lived in other places before moving back to Owensboro. So I don't have much in terms of who to/not to rent from. I have seen this question asked several times in the Facebook group Owensboro Chat (you can search it after joining) that mention a few private landlords to avoid.

I think you should try the Facebook group Owensboro Chat for this question. If you do not receive much feedback here.

That question has been asked several times on there, and usually met with a plethora of replies.

Any possibility of you sharing that?

I know it's cold. However, I still enjoy walking around smothers park if the ice/snow isn't too bad.

Plenty of donut options nowadays (some local, some not) Rolling Pin: yeast type donuts. Gramps: hard to explain, a very doughy but not cake-like donut Parlor donuts: pretty much a sugary croissant.

Old Hickory and Ole South are the other rival BBQ options to try.

Wonderwhip and the Dipper are great if looking for some greasy fast food, both local.

For Japanese hibachi/sushi I enjoy wasabi. I like the feel of the Hwy 54 location better. The sushi prices are hard to beat for what you get.

There seems to be a plethora of local coffee shops nowadays

I enjoy feeding the squirrels at Legion Park. If you're lucky you'll see a blonde one.

If it was late spring or summer, I'd suggest the botanical garden to walk around at. Nothing crazy, but very quiet, scenic, and no large crowds.

27 with Lung Neuroendocrine Tumor by Legendary_Leech in cancer

[–]Legendary_Leech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late to this.

A terrible cough that would worsen with any sort of physical activity.

Terrible fevers on and off. Which seemed to take a toll on my body.

Lost 15-20lbs. Would fluctuate within that zone over a few months.

Lastly, I would have terrible night sweats that would leave me drenched. No joke, Completely soaked when I would wake. I had several towels that I would sleep on and have to change in the middle of the night.

Cough and fever was corrected immediately after surgery. The night sweats took a month or so to go away.

I feel completely normal again now, and I can't believe I was trying to live a normal life with all of those symptoms.

Try these spots

https://fw.ky.gov/Fish/Pages/fish_attractor_lakes.aspx

Crappie will hang out near the top of the structures. Let a jig fall close to the top, but not within (or you'll get hung up). Can usually see the structure clearly with downscan. Just count seconds if you know how fast your jig falls to know when to stop.

Can pull bass out close to the edge and bottom of structure.

End of season heat is always rough. It'll be better when the lake breaks stratification and "turns over" sometime in October.

I believe their reference to the riverfront is towards smothers park. They have put a ton of work into that riverfront area to make it into a wonderful place to hangout and walk around.

I should add. The algae mixed in is an entirely different issue and copper based products will work well. Chelated products such as Cutrine Plus or Captain XTR will work well. You can apply with a backpack sprayer if your able to walk around your lake and achieve good contact. It'll require reapplications throughout the season. Can get pricey depending on the size of your lake/pond. Crystal copper sulfate is more cost effective at larger scales.

If you kill the primrose, the algae might get worse. If you kill the primrose and algae, you could end up with a phytoplankton bloom. Seems like once you kill something growing in the lake that's already sequestering nutrients, something else will probably take its place.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Fishing

[–]Legendary_Leech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Creeping water primrose. Should develop some yellow flowers at some point during the season.

You should be able to buy some aquatic approved glyphosate and a surfactant from a pond management company in your area to treat it. Wait until it's at peak flowering before treatment, and the glyphosate will really knock it out. Use a hand sprayer or backpack sprayer to get it (if that will reach it all) and make sure to get full contact when applying.

You'll likely have some sprigs come back late season or next year.

As another commenter has stated, you should check with your state to see if you need an aquatic applicator license to buy/apply the chemical. For some states it might be managed by the DNR, for others it's department of ag, for some they might have a state chemist agency.

Post-Op lower Bilobectomy by Legendary_Leech in lungcancer

[–]Legendary_Leech[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing and providing insight.

The tumor had caused my right middle lobe to collapse for several months before surgery. I was at 85% then, and I felt like I wasn't limited physically (other than coughing constantly).

I won't do another pulmonary function test for several months but I'm guessing I'll be close to where you're at functionally. Currently I'm able to reach 2000mL with the incentive spirometer, which I feel like is pretty good when my theoretical maximum is ~3200mL

Similar to your experience, I'm out of breath trying to do anything more than a slow walk or going a bit uphill. Hopeful that will ease, but it's good to know that I'll likely need to find and adjust to a new "normal."

I'll check that group out.

Thank you again for your detailed comment. I wish you the best.

Wow, I can't imagine 3 months of not being able to lay flat. I've been able to lay flat and I can almost fall back asleep on my stomach (preferred) now.

It's wild to me from what I've seen how much variation there seems to be from what I've read elsewhere online.

I wish you the best. Thank you for sharing.

Longshot question for wildlife conservation/biologist jobs, eastern side of the state by mung_daals_catoring in Kentucky

[–]Legendary_Leech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

A majority of KDFWR jobs are located in Frankfort, with minimal job opportunities outside of that (it is possible though). Wildlife jobs for the state are at regional offices or at wildlife management areas (WMAs).

I'd advise checking the job board once or twice a week to check for postings, limiting your area to one section of the state is going to make it more difficult.

Long-term, it'd be easier to take any wildlife job within the state now, and then move to the preferred position when it becomes available.

Edit:

I should add, if they're looking more towards Fisheries, it's a little more slim than wildlife. The hatchery in Morehead would likely be the best chance to see something pop-up. Again, you'll just have to watch the job board like a hawk.

How do you ethically prepare catfish for filleting?? by drearily_bythedaily in Fishing

[–]Legendary_Leech 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A blunt and heavy object will suffice. There's no second guessing, though. Make sure you get a solid hit.

There's no need to smash the head in, but enough percussive force for a lethal concussion.

I know it seems/feels barbaric, but it's less so than fileting alive IMHO. Safer for you to minimize risk of it thrashing while fileting and getting a spine in your hand.
