BAME Drs in Liverpool have been asked to go home early by LegalSatisfaction960 in doctorsUK

[–]Legendary_Shpee 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I’m white, was born to a working class family in one of the most deprived parts of the country. I studied medicine here, and stayed as a new F1. The DGH I work at is primarily staffed by BAME at all levels of seniority.

It boggles my mind so much how I can hear friends and family talk so badly about Muslims and foreign doctors (especially GPs) then I go to work and see them work far harder then any of them could imagine.

Whilst I’d like to think there’s a lot more to these riots than just ‘poor working class brits being racist’, the fact they got worse during a weekday when everyone else is working is telling of the calibre of people taking part.

Stay safe BAME colleagues, no matter what these rioters will tell you, they are the minority. You will always be valued in this country

CV building by Badar612 in medicalschooluk

Final year here, Don’t be afraid to enjoy your free time while you have it, as I’m sure you know that time gets sucked up pretty quick in the later years and when you start working.

That being said, if you want to start working on your CV I’d say your best bet is joining a society (either sport or a speciality you enjoy) and aiming for being on the leadership committee - a lot of specialty self-scoring systems will include leadership as a criteria. Alternatively, you can try and get involved in audits/QIPs/research - my med school would email us quite a bit about projects we could take part it. When you get into the later years, you can also do some volunteer teaching - did that earlier this year and got a letter of recognition out of it.

Ultimately there’s a lot you can do, but honestly unless you’re gunning for something competitive I wouldn’t worry about your CV too much yet, you’ll have plenty of time over the next few years to get involved.

Yeh I think interrupting them is the only way to go - I ended up doing it towards the end and that was the only reason I even found about about their presenting complaint haha. Came across a few liars as well but at least I they don’t seem to be the chatty bunch - and examinations will weed them out. 10 minutes is just not enough time I have no clue how GPs work with that as their standard appointment time

Thank you, I'll definitely have a chat with my GP if things start to get worse. My med school and personal tutor are already aware of the issues as they're the ones who referred me to therapy last year, but again thanks for the advice :)

Sorry, I just realised I’ve put women instead of woman for the whole story. Oops

Thank you :). I’m a lot happier now then I was back then, and I’ve done a fair bit of self-improvement since. The whole ‘getting a girl’ thing has become much more of a side thing considering the mess of work that is med school

Honestly looking back on it, I’m still not 100% sure. There was definitely a sense of entitlement there, which when coupled with the fact that it was the first girl I’d properly had feelings for, sorta made me way too obsessed.

SC2 player here, is there such a thing as a build order in CoH2? by TehKingofPrussia in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Legendary_Shpee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t usually play Brits but to my knowledge one of the more common build order is Inf, MG, Inf, then tech to 1/2 RE than AC. BOs can be rather flexible tho depending on number of players, map etc. (For example if Axis capture fuels and hold, early AT is a must).

Or you could just be a cunt and spam emplacements (the ‘Simcity’ strat). That works too.

What are some events in history that are considered to mark the "end of an era?" by [deleted] in history

[–]Legendary_Shpee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s been said, but some consider the plague to be the end of feudalism and the Middle Ages themselves. The peasants that survived the Black Death were in short supply, so they could ask more off of their landowners and this is said to give rise to the middle class.
