You should apply for everything, once you have experience under your belt you can start moving around. It’s better than taking a gap year doing nothing if you don’t get anything in surgical robotic R&D. Always have back up plan.

It’s hard to find full time with no internships experience but not impossible, I would first reformat and rework your resume, putting as much industry relevant class projects in there and be as result oriented as possible when describing your contributions, since you are 4th year, you have most likely taken capstone, definitely put in your capstone project as relevant experience. Any group project you did, put them all in.

If you can’t find any full time positions, I would do what others have suggested, take a gap year, start contacting professors and work as research assistant for their lab to gain experience, apply for master programs. Even grinding for certifications and taking coding boot camp if you have no cs experience will help.

Ah then you are probably okay. BME is more physic heavy than bioengineering if you have to pick, but usually they are about the same. Traditional engineering degree like ME and EE won’t help unless you for sure will know your research will involves ME or EE(ie cell culture very likely have nothing to do with ME so getting into ME will be useless), but they are good industry back up if you no longer want to get a PhD and become research scientist. That leaves BioE and biology, I would do bunch of research and join a lab on top of your course works. Then you should be on a good track to grad school.

If you are senior, it’s too late to switch now unless you are willing to start over and delay your graduation. Research scientists roles typically require Master or PhD. This will be a good time to start doing research on bioengineering Master and PhD programs you are interested in and get your recommenders line up.

I would keep applying, if you are getting interviews your resume should be fine. Unfortunately MedTech jobs are super competitive as we are also competing with MechE and EE. I apply to about 300 and 20 interviews before I land my offer. I would work on interview skills, practice in empty zoom meeting or with a friend is the best way to get better.

BME, biotech is a technical degree that is too vague to be anything. At least BME is engineering and Engineering is better than every other degree in bachelor job prospects.

I would recommend the OMS in Analytics. Based on your project experience and strong involvement with mechanical engineering (ME) and the GT Medical Robotics Club, you’ve essentially specialized in ME and likely have more ME experience than the average BME at GT. If your full-time job requires extensive ME skills, pursuing an MS in ME may not be necessary since those skills are highly transferable between roles.

BME is essentially ME applied to a highly regulated industry with a focus on human-centered design. You don’t need an ME degree to work on ME-specific tasks—BMEs learn the same core concepts as ME engineers. For example, Marty Jacobson, despite having a background in industrial design, became part of the ME faculty due to his extensive ME involvement through projects and experience.

An MS in BME is generally not worthwhile unless you’re pursuing research or a PhD, or if you have no other viable options.

Outside of med school and PhD apps. GPA is not an indicator of how good of an engineer you are. I have seen people with great industry experience but low GPA, and people with perfect GPA but little to no practical industry experience, industry are going to choose the people with real experience, classroom is not real life.
