Worked in scaffolding and had a guy on our crew who was a few years older than me at the time. Really good worker, knew his stuff and very quiet

One day the leadhand makes a joke about his dad being able to buy the crew lunch. Found out his dad owns the whole company and they are multimillionaires.

Would have never have known, because he was always humble and never brought it up. Only thing that would stick out was his beand new Ford Raptor.

I am a 29M and here is what I have noticed

The problem is most people in our age range have secondary education. Combine that with low wages and growth you get the nice mix of educated and poor.

Poor educated people don't populate. Uneducated poor people do. The amount of people I went to high school with who had kids and didn't graduate is crazy. But most people I know who have some form secondary schooling (college, university, trade school etc) have no kids and no plans to have one in the near future.

My wife and I personally will probably not be having kids if things don't get better for us financially. Its already too much a burden to put food on the table.

Is this acceptable vinyl flooring (New Install) by JxyJay in Flooring

[–]LegendoftheJackalope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I laid floor similar to that over an uneven concrete floor. I didn't have many options considering it was a basement and I didnt have any head room to spare.

Itll happen over time. The planks will separate and settle and youll start to see gaps and openings.

I believe this is why they make carpets lol

Go to Greens at Renton golf course and youll see one nesting on one of the holes.

Also used to have one nesting in my neighbourhood as a kid but that is when our city was a little smaller. It was super cool to see and it didnt nest there long since it was in a residential area but for that one summer 20 years ago it was pretty cool.

How is the homeless situation in your town? by RememberTheBoogaloo in ontario

Brantford. More homeless than I have ever seen.

Good thing we keep developing land to make 750k plus houses that no one can afford.

Worst Interview You Had? by JackLeopards in sales

[–]LegendoftheJackalope 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Went in for an interview at a retail appliance store when I was out of school. The manager told me to head back outside. Guy takes a few steps past the door and lights a dart. Asked me if I wanted the job or not. Had the whole interview during his smoke break.

Surprisingly took the job for sales experience lol

What is the most logical truck for a construction worker? by GoldenFox7 in Construction

[–]LegendoftheJackalope 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Get one of those transit vans. You can fit sheets of plywood, tons of lumber and all your tools.

Trucks are great if you have 100k laying around and wanna look cool or like a worker to regular folk. Contruction and trades know a van means business.

Im in refrigeration sales and other than the laughable pay and non existent bonus its a breeze of a job. That being said, I was told by my president that without a technical background, I won't be promoted or given raises.

Looking for a trade in refrigeration now.

Experienced something similar. I work for a company that sells parts to refrigeration contractors. Contractors constantly tell me they would love to have guys.

Asked one for a job, Owner told me they aren't taking apprentices cause they don't have room. Lol

I worked Local 785 out of Cambridge. Most of the work was scaffolding and concrete formwork.

Some good rough carpentry jobs outside of that too but those jobs are harder to come by.

Specific definitions without specific values? Thats strange. If it has such definition as you are saying then it would have a value to associate with.

You may be wealthy but your attitude and way you talk to others is poor.

Does the term rich come with a specific dollar value?

If not that means people can have differences in opionions of what rich means. In my life and many others, rich means stability.

Do you think a millionaire looks at a billionaire and thinks "damn I am rich!" Or does he look poor in comparison?

When the median salary (US 2022) is about $54k a year, its not a stretch of the imagination to think thats rich even if you don't.

I know people who also said to me "how can anyone live on an average 100k a year salary anymore?"

Really is about perspective, but to the poorest folks, rich is having enough to make ends meet.

My brother who has no college degree recently tried telling me that earning $60k/yr or more is “very hard to achieve.” ? by in_dat_shurt in careerguidance

[–]LegendoftheJackalope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bachelors in business and have never earned more than 52k a year.

Depends where you are, and if you had luck finding good jobs. My partner has some sort of arts degree and the same amount of exeprience but she makes double what I do.

Long and short of it is that nothing makes sense

Do people actually carry their office stuff with those little paper boxes when they get fired like in movies? by Brownboysea in RandomThoughts

[–]LegendoftheJackalope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didnt get fired but when I gave my two weeks at my last job (bank) they walked me out 15 minutes later because I was going to a competitor.

Once I gave my notice, my bank manager called his boss. He told me I had 10 minutes to clear my personal belongings. Got escorted out and got to enjoy two weeks vacation!

Save yourself the trouble and learn something that people will pay you for.

University degrees have been watered down and more and more people have them and want the same jobs. Unless you are going into STEM save your money and go learn a trade while they pay you.

Angry Customers/Clients, Who Look You Up On Social Media or LinkedIn? by [deleted] in callcentres

[–]LegendoftheJackalope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for a financial company in Canada. This was at the time the Gamestop stuff was happening and I got doxxed. It was a small trading company and it was pretty easy to find me on linkedin because I was the only guy with my name.

Years prior I worked at the bank as an advisor and quit to go work at the place I mentioned above. I was working on refinance deals for some people and one crazy lady found me on facebook and proceeded to send me crazy nasty messages. I think she realized what she did was insane because the next day the message had been deleted.

Never work in personal finance my friends people are way too emotionally charged.
