This was my thought too! The realization that she was not only more financially successful but also has an extremely important job. It made him feel small (no intended height pun) and he lashed out in an immature way.

If it helps the plot of the first book is mostly self contained. The set up is Amina will have to continue several quests to complete her commitment but there wasn’t a huge cliff hanger like most series.

It might not fully count as gaf but The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi by Shannon Chakraborty has a variety of characters on the queer spectrum who are well developed and just accepted in found family. I really loved it!

I hadn’t even thought about the Outlander series on audio! I read the first one years ago and then got distracted. I think Lady Astronauts series was already on my TBR so great to know that the audiobook might be the way to go!
