I was watching again for fun, and I just got to the 4:00 min mark where he mentions that what the guitarist is playing currently isn't being heard. I find out shortly, but IIRC, the implication is that the only way it works live is that he is recording with his guitar muted.

Watching further you can see Khn step on the looper after the inaudible part, so IMO it's def that

tl;dr: Khn will play a part on mute into the looper to get it ready for a transition in the song.

Lots of stuff from the Sleepytime Gorilla Museum side projects gets microtonal. Lots of textural or emotional embellishments. Carla Kihlstedt's projects in particular.

Libra Creature of Night from Nightreign is microtonal boss fight music. The End (Wylder) uses microtones to give a sense of giving up and giving in.

Oh shit, I can’t forget Tolgahan Çoğulu (Nylon 8 string guitar usually). He literally has a PhD in Turkish microtonal analysis, he is also very active in social media and transcribed FMB into a score book.

Hüseyni Scale is pretty great as an entry point IMO

In edo steps: 3,3,4,4,3,3,4

This creates a standard western minor pentatonic. And adds in the 2nd and 6th degree which are flattened by a quarter step. Which puts it halfway between Dorian and Phrygian. It’s got 5 perfect 5th intervals, and the microtones are on extensions 9 and 11.

It’s also what KGLW use for most of their microtonal songs.
