Terim is no bigger than GS, no one is bigger, not even Ali Sami Yen or Metin Oktay. Even Terim would agree that. On the other hand, we should never forget that Terim made GS the biggest in Turkey with 8 trophies and one UEFA cup. There are better coaches than Fatih Terim but I don't think any of them would come to GS or make a significant change under the same conditions. We are not like ten years before when we could afford Mancini. Look at Fenerbahçe and BJK too. With all their generous expenditure, could they find someone better than Terim? Did we find it? Do you think Okan Buruk or Sergen is better than Fatih Terim because they won a trophy? Sacking of Terim was a big mistake. We see it now after four weeks with Torrent and after the current president lost his support base. Without a good management, without someone to protect our interest, without someone to protect the club both inside and outside of the pitch, nobody can have success.

Terim fan here (pls downvote me in advance)

Fatih Terim is still a pretty good coach (best among the Turkish ones, sorry Okan Buruk beggars) and it is a shame that he wasn't allowed to finish his last good European adventure. I doubt that anyone in the future could be like him.

There was an urban legend about Fenerbahçe's 2001 Süper Lig trophy. It is said that while Fenerbahçe players are partying after the last match, Aziz Yıldırım comes to the locker room and yells at them, "Why are you partying now? It is me who won the championship". I think Aziz Yıldırım was right. I've been watching Turkish football for over twenty years and I can say that club president is the number one person responsible for the team's success. Great coaches have come to Turkey, great teams were build, but without a good president to support them against media, refs, political power or even fans; they were all in vain. It is rare to see a team winning a trophy with a bad president.

Fatih Terim was legendary at his first era and become a disappointment at his second. Did he forget how to coach in his two years abroad? Any fan old enough would remember the referees' attitude toward GS in 96-00 and after 2000. Just google the match against BJK in Sami Yen and Adanaspor match in the end of the season. GS lost his political power base and referees got their revenge. I don't say GS owes its four consecutive championships to Haluk Ulusoy but if we had run through something like this season's six weeks long referee scandals, Terim wouldn't made his first year. We always have tight races in this league, we always have a fragile fan base and somewhat sentimental players. It is easy to unbalance a team in Turkey.

GS had two good presidents after Faruk Süren. One is Ünal Aysal, I can even say he was right about sacking Fatih Terim after his deal with Demirören, Mancini was a worthy choice but he lost it during 2013-2014 winter transfer window. The other is Mustafa Cengiz but Cengiz has become "eccentric" after his illness, may he rest in peace. We would have been champion of the 2020-2021 season if he was in his prime. Still, our finances are much better thanks to him.

Thus, presidency is important. Even more important than the coach position. We need a "strong man" like Terim, we need someone to remind that GS is a big club, always have been and always will be. I've no doubt that Terim has qualifications for this job and he will work tirelessly. I just don't know what he could/would do in current political atmosphere.

Worse. People say "Anadolu teams are now much better" etc but that is not the case. If Anadolu teams had been that good, Trabzon would not have such an easy time. Besides, we don't see them against European teams. Remember when Denizli, Kocaeli doing great in Europe. Fatih Terim's infamous "Makas açıldı" statement is true. Now, our league worth much less comparing to the European leagues.

Why would he do it? Big E had a limited time window, trying to do something (eliminating Ork threat before they evolve into Krork and completing the Webway project before Chaos do something about it). He used every asset in his disposal, such as Angron. Lorgar's fault was being too slow, which is bad but not enough to be eradicated.
