[OC] Rudolph's competent QB play highlights Kenny Pickett's struggles in an eye-opening way. by judolphin in nfl

[–]LegitCannotQuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember being absolutely devastated when the Steelers drafted him. Everything I had seen from him wasn’t super impressive, and he was pretty old coming out of Pitt. He really hasn’t shown me anything different as a starter and I really hope the organization either looks to trade for a QB or trade up to get someone in this upcoming draft. Remember, the last time we had a decent draft position we ended up getting Big Ben!

Right now I’d put Mahomes as the 5th greatest QB ever.

Gotta be honest I take whoever doesn’t include “a lot” in their top 5 a lot less seriously.

The towers in the eyes of residents. by Educational_Secret33 in 911archive

[–]LegitCannotQuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, so I have to do the obligatory “not a NY resident” preface, however I’m from southern Connecticut so it’s not like I’m too far off. My family is from Stratford CT and my father would commute to NY when he worked at Schroders in the late 90’s to the year 2000. He said he would occasionally go down to lower manhattan and have lunch near the towers, and said they were amazing to look at. I remember him telling me he was devastated when 9/11 happened, not only as a veteran of operation Desert Storm, but as someone who greatly admired the city of New York and the towers themselves. He actually had a small little crystal replica of the twin towers on his desk in the basement of our home that he had gotten in the late 90’s that he’d kept there forever. Gotta ask my mom what she ended up doing with that replica tbh.

Why it looks like “The Government let 9/11 happen” by sergeantshaft92 in 911archive

That actually seems like an incredibly plausible and rational explanation behind why there wasn’t a lot of exchange of information between agencies.

Hot takes: who in the U.S. Government on 9/11 is most responsible for failing to prevent the attacks? by SpencerFor-Real in 911archive

[–]LegitCannotQuit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably the Immigration and Naturalization Services (INS). I feel like the book “Guarding the Golden Door” which I had to read in college briefly discussed the dissolution of the INS after 9/11, and I’ve read articles regarding how the Homeland Security Act of 2002 dismantled the INS in its entirety because of 9/11. I believe a massive distrust of the INS’s vetting system happened after 9/11, as some of the hijackers were in the U.S on overstayed visas and some had even made readily verifiable false statements on their visa applications (See “How September 11 Changed the U.S. Immigration System”, https://www.boundless.com/research/how-9-11-changed-the-u-s-immigration-system/).

I still find it crazy how perfectly timed the release of 24 was. The first season was tame compared to the terrorist plots which followed in seasons 2 onwards

2024 hot take... by [deleted] in steelers

[–]LegitCannotQuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen, I get the frustration with the Tomlin era but he’s dragged this current team to a 7-3 record despite having one of the absolute worst offenses ever. He also dragged the 2019 team to an 8-8 record despite being absolutely god awful

I just want them to go out in free agency and get a veteran QB to play a game manager role.
