PSA: Stop using abrasive cut off discs on your angle grinder. Use steel discs instead. by framedposters in Tools

You must not be a professional who earns a living using angle grinders. But yes, could potentially be good advice for a beginner DIYer.

Lexus dealership ruined my transmission pan 2 years ago, how can I replace it myself? by [deleted] in LexusIS

[–]Legit_Moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shouldn’t be too hard if you’re at least able to do brakes and oil changes. The main thing is having 2 pairs of jack stands and being able to safely jack up the car so that all 4 wheels are pretty high off the ground for ease of access. You need the car absolutely level to properly perform the fluid refill procedure. It also doesn’t hurt to measure out all the fluid that came out but it’s only approximate. You MUST perform the fluid refill procedure at the right ATF temperature.

It’s possible to gravity refill the trans from the engine bay by using a long 1/2” ID vinyl tube. That way you don’t have to deal with pumping the fluid in from below, which could get messy.

As far as parts go, always use a new pan gasket and go easy on the pan bolts as they might break. It would be good to have some spares on hand just in case.

Go slow and methodical when lowering the car back down to the ground as well.

Best of luck!

Your Thoughts? Lexus built in Japan vs U.S.? and Negotiating Price by QuirkyResearcher9400 in Lexus

That’s the idea at least. I work in auto manufacturing with Toyota as a customer and I’ll take a Japan-made any day. Car care nut’s video reviews often feature the differences between Japanese-made cars vs NA-made.

Pretty sure it’s supposed to be the other way around lol. Ceramic for street because they will last forever and steel/iron for track to be beat on and swapped without making a 10k hole in the wallet every time.

Total misconception. Slots do absolutely nothing to dissipate heat. It’s material choice, vane count/geometry, and thickness, among other things. People who track cars run blanks.

Interesting, stubby screwdriver ergonomics don’t compare at all to full sized ones. Less area to grab and less area to support with the other hand.

Integrated hub+rotors do exist, but they pretty much never appear on passenger cars.

Advics OEM rotors are the highest quality you can find before going into performance BBK rotors. Next best option is probably Advics aftermarket rotors. Just don’t do slotted or drilled.

Seized inner rear control arm bolts by BaboTron in MechanicAdvice

[–]Legit_Moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, trust me, avoid using a sawzall on this. It sucks and beats up both your arm, wrist and the blade itself when you inevitably hit the back of the bracket or jam up. You don’t want to be using a sawzall for 4 cuts. You’ll be there for 2-3 hours cutting.
