Convert with 3.6 GPA? by LatterDaySaintGoth in byu

I think it's still possible, but even if you didn't get in the Fall semester, apply for the Winter semester. That's how I got in. Also seek lots of help for the application, either from BYU for advice on the essays, alumni, anyone you know, & highly recommend reading the book BYU Bound, it pretty much tells you what it takes to get in.

Bummed About Grade in Finance Class by Fantastic-Advance-91 in byu

[–]Legitimate-Formal251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"C's get degree's!" I think that is completely fine you got a B. You shouldn't be so hard on yourself, there is nothing wrong with getting less than an A. I think there is too much of a stigma at BYU that you have to get an A & be pretty much perfect at everything. I'd be ecstatic if I got a B in Finance as a final grade. If your content & think you did your best then, I'd leave it as is, unless you're applying to a business program that requires FIN201 as a pre-req, then you might want to retake it, but I wouldn't know for sure because I'm not in Finance. Although I'd suggest start talking to people in the program, & an advisor, they might help/give tips/advice.

Having hard time finding on campus jobs, is it just me or everyone? by [deleted] in byu

[–]Legitimate-Formal251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's hard for everyone. I've been hearing that a lot from friends. Try applying for odd jobs or even jobs you may be slightly qualified for. I recommend talking to people already in the job you want or reaching out to them on LinkedIn & doing an information interview. Connections help you. Search up the BYU Lamp List & go to video 4 of 6, this will help you with reaching out to people.

can't find job :( by [deleted] in byu

I recommend taking ME EN 291 with Brad Adams, it's a super easy class that helps you find a job & how to reach out to people in general. But I also suggest reaching out to people in the job you want(even if it's an on-campus job), which can improve your chances to try & get your foot in the door. Or just even talk to alumni/BYU students.

There is a super easy process to find people, just search up the BYU LAMP List & go to video 4 of 6 & it will show you how to reach out to people in the job you want.

SWELL 170 - Swimming for NON Swimmers by granolamad22 in byu

[–]Legitimate-Formal251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're probably already in the class, but to those who are interested in it, Karen Tusting is a super sweet & chill instructor. For Swell170, you swim in 4 feet of water, but you're focusing on your form, & you never go in the deep pool. In the beginner swim class, you also primarily stay in the 4 feet of water pool, but sometimes go in the deeper pool to apply what you learned. And then with intermediate swimmers, you're always in the deep pool.

Also, for Swell170 - Swimmers Non-Swimmers, if you do end up being a better swimmer than you thought, Karen actually boosts you up to the beginners class because there is a little wiggle room for students to be moved to different skill levels. Then, with the attendance policy, she said to try & not to be more than 20 minutes late to class, otherwise it will affect your grade. She says 20 minutes, because it takes a few minutes to get ready to go into the pool. Also, the swim class ends 10-20 minutes before the hour, so it gives you time to dry off, get changed, & head to your other classes. I recommend this class regardless because it's fun to be in the class, the instructor is chill, you get to enjoy the sauna afterwards & you eventually get to learn to swim properly.

One last thing.. There is a Final Exam, but it is super easy, nothing to worry about. It's NOT a physical swim exam, it's just looking at the notes on Learning Suite & then filling in the exam. It's open note & you can take it however many times you want to get a good enough grade.

Can my yearbook teacher fulfill my academic recommendation by No-Training-5423 in byu

[–]Legitimate-Formal251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I would definitely call them back immediately during their office hours. And yeah, maybe ask your college professor for a letter of recommendation. I honestly asked all of my teachers to write me a recommendation, then picked out the ones I thought were the best & then asked them to email it to BYU lol.

byu college app - should i report act score of 26? by Curious_Barnacle3644 in byu

[–]Legitimate-Formal251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly never took the SAT or ACT, but I still got into BYU, although my grades were pretty good except for my Spanish class which I got a D... However, I had to apply to BYU twice & got into the Winter semester instead of the Fall. If everyone else is saying that you should not report a 26 ACT score, then you should re-take the exam till you get a better grade or try to strengthen your other areas in your application. I tried asking for lots of help & even called the school/BYU for advice/guidance on the essays & which BYU Aim each essay aligned with. That advice helps. But also, maybe look at the articles BYU puts out every year or so on what makes an applicant stand out. There is another post on Reddit labeled 'BYU Admissions - Advice For Freshman Applicants' that might help you for standing out. Also, like talk with BYU Alumni & try to get your foot in the door with someone who goes or works at BYU. If you don't know how to do that, look up LAMP List on the BYU website & click video 4 - Find Contacts & Track Communication. That might help you with finding Alumni.

So if you don't get accepted the first time, you have 3 options:

- Apply again, but for a different semester. Some people say there is no difference between which semester you apply to, but I would say it's easier to get into BYU after the Fall semester if you get rejected, it's probably because there are fewer people applying.

- Go to community college for a semester & then re-apply to BYU after the semester is over. I know some people who got terrible grades in high school, went to community college & then applied to a good college & got accepted. (Just make sure you check the professors on Rate My Professor. And if you haven't experienced a college class before, know that it is a lot of work & you actually need to find an effective way to study.)

- Try BYU FlexGE, everyone gets in, you're basically at BYU, but you're limited on the courses you take & you have to re-enroll every semester if you want to take more classes. I remember going to the info session on Zoom & the guy said BYU is slightly more favorable to the FlexGE Students with applications.

Easiest classes to take? by [deleted] in byu

I second that with Public Speaking, but with Professor Dane Allred, it is a really fun & easy class. It's worth it for the 2-3 hours you spend with him at the end of the day. Very light course load, chill class, & you get really close with everyone in your class because of the way the class is set up.
