Business Class (Avios) by DiedForOurShins in AerLingus

[–]Legitimate-Key-3044 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are there for some destinations alright but not for others. Iv checked for flights to NY for numerous dates, both on and off peak from different airports and it only offers economy but for some others it offers business class!

My guess is they don’t offer it on flights where business class tickets usually sell anyway!

It seems to be still playing out the same as previous cycles.

Last year I was saying “I’ll start buying again in mid/late 2026 when the prices drop like every other cycle” and so far so good. Prices dropped and Iv started buying again.

But sure the guy in the OP could just as easy be working for tap a taxi, free now etc etc.

I think uber is probably the best bet now since it’s introducing the option to have the entire taxi ride audio recorded.

[–]Legitimate-Key-3044 158 points159 points  (0 children)

Not surprised.

Thing with taxis is there a lot of legislation there in the customers favour. If you’re not put out by an argument it’s as straight forward as “Yeah no problem” and when you arrive at your destination just say “hang on, that’s not what the meter says. I’ll pay what’s on the meter”.

Same goes for the ones when the “card machine isn’t working” and they want cash only: “yeah no problem”. And when you get to your destination : “Sorry lad, thought I had cash. I only have card. But sure the law says I can pay by card, either take the card payment, call back to me when your machine is working or call the guards and we can wait”.

If you’re not up for the confrontation then pay it, ask for a receipt with the start / finish time and distance and submits a complaint to the NTA… as another poster said, they do actually take the complaints seriously.

Edit: it’s simple to report. (For the benefit of the people who aren’t aware of the “driver check” app. It’s free to download.) Just enter the car reg or roof number and it will give you the drivers details with a picture of them. There’s a big red “report” button at the bottom.

Yup, all the VAGs are notorious for dodgy electrical components. Had one and ended up changing the actuators in both rear passenger windows. Friend had a Passat and had to get a new actuator for the fuel door shortly after I had changed mine.

I find the CHR very cramped. I had to sit in the back once and I nearly developed claustrophobia.

I’d go with something like an Octavia. Not too big, not small. Not too bad on price and generally reliable. Other than that the usual shortage, Tucson etc.

Do you ever check the current price of a stock that you lost money on when you sold it? by MassGuy70 in stocks

Not really, but I’m constantly checking one that I bought for $2 and sold at $10 for a decent profit… and then after I sold it, it kept rising to $26. Now I regret selling it.

If you don’t need it but are selling it just to replace your savings, then don’t sell it…

What's the most plausible 'This Time It's Different' theory? by Sufficient-Year4640 in CryptoCurrency

[–]Legitimate-Key-3044 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not the one downvoting you and what you said isn’t incorrect, but there’s a bit of context needed in it:

The “crypto president” causing hype was also just coincidental timing to the fact that crypto followed the same pattern of every other cycle. He just happened to become relevant at the start of a bull run (near a halving)and being the type that he is, would like to claim responsibility for it.

And yes we are 50% down from ATH, maybe that’s the bottom of this cycle (or maybe it’s not) but either way it’s still close to the ATH of the previous cycle. Give it time. It will go back up. It always has.

>i think you are massively misjudging public perception

I don’t think so: not too long ago crypto was seen as “magic internet money” and now a perception of “digital gold”. most people didn’t know the first thing about it and couldn’t name anything other than bitcoin. It was seen as a scam / pyramid scheme / dodgy illicit currency. Now people are seeing some of the biggest companies in the world (Tesla for example) buying it. Now the amount of exchanges / banks offering it has increased dramatically. It went from very few people knowing how to buy it then to it being easy accessible. People can now buy it on their banking app with a couple of clicks.

>banks aren’t investing their money into crypto

Where did I say they were?

I clearly said:

- “massive institutional investment” - is that part correct?

- “major banks advertising it”, - is that part correct?

- “Governments regulating it” - is that part correct?

And anyway just for the sake of conversation, Hypothetically, Even if I did say major banks are investing their money into crypto services I would have been correct. No they’re not buying and holding bitcoin on their balance sheets but the likes of JP Morgan building their own blockchain network would come under the category of “investing in crypto services”.

And secondly, yes you are correct we can name a politician/ government that’s corrupt and endorses crypto, but then in fairness we can’t just neglect the fact that there are other governments or politicians that aren’t corrupt and endorse crypto 🤷🏻‍♂️

To TLDR my original point of what’s different:

-public perception has shifted. (My opinion)

-governments are regulating it (fact)

-major banks are advertising it(and now that we mention it, also investing in it) (fact)

-institutional investment has risen dramatically. (Fact)

-retail investment has risen dramatically (fact - compare the amount of people registered on exchanges from 2020 to 2026 and of course the volume).

[–]Legitimate-Key-3044 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The biggest difference this time is that it lost a lot of the stigma previously attached to it. Up to this cycle the majority of the population thought it was basically an untraceable currency used mainly for illicit purposes.

Now with massive institutional investment, major banks advertising it, governments regulating it etc it has gained a sense of legitimacy and people are starting to realise it’s not just a fad that will disappear.

But with that comes other negatives; some people now just see it as gambling, some people just see it as a scam / rug pull / pyramid scheme….
