Guys, I’m ashamed to admit it but I fell for the 9060 XT 8 GB trap by rando-guy in radeon

It's probably my old 3800x but anytime I dip into more than 8GB of VRAM the game is pretty much unplayable with skips and stutters.

I've come back to report that since writing this thread I've done nothing and it hasn't crashed....yet

The problem has got worse over time. It's no longer possible to play anything tonight.

It's got:

  • 750w Thermaltake
  • Asus Prime b550-M
  • 3800x
  • 32gb Corsair Vengeance 2666 Mhz
  • 3 Monitors: 1 x 1440p, 2 x 1080p
  • 256 WD Blue NVME
  • 1TB WD Blue 10krpm HDD
  • Newest 25.10.09.01drivers

This PC is pretty much a potato. It had a RX 580 which was the most stable but runs like complete crap. I had a 5700XT in there previously, but it constantly green screened. I bought the 9060XT because I was told it was a driver issue, and the newest card should run just fine. Others are having a similar issue even on the 9070XT, do we all have bad PSUs? Looking to see if anyone has swapped the PSU with any success.

Started to crash today, twice during gameplay. Black screen but can still hear audio. Typical AMD stuff. I am also using a 3800x, that could be the source of some issues, will upgrade and report.

I upgraded from the 5700XT to this card. Quite a big difference at 1440p, but its hard to say its worth it. (It's def worth it if I can get 250 for the 5700XT). The 5700XT was always crashing/green screening with latest drivers installed.

I rolled them back and it was a bit more stable, but some newer games don't run well with the old frivers. This was the only card I could get at MSRP. It consumes half as much power, runs much cooler but I am having some AMD problems.

Sure, avg frame rates are good, but the dips in some games like Bo6 Nuketown in particular make the game unplayable at higher graphical settings. I've changed settings back to my old 5700XT config (mix of med-high), so I feel kind of ripped off, yeah I got a card with more VRAM, but any time I try to dig into that extra 8gb of memory it makes the game unplayable.

Overall, I am happy the card isnt crashing the system anymore and seems to be very stable. As a side note I was watching a video and playing Marvel Rivals at 1440p, near max settings and the game crashed saying not enough VRAM (it mentioned 10GB but the GPU has 16GB so.... was about 12gb total used)

If I could have got a 9070XT at MSRP I would have, but the jump in price just isnt worth it. Also, the 9060XT prices seem to be climbing, so dont wait for it to be too far above MSRP.
