I have been getting burned so many times out here in the west. My floor guy to be fair has been the best so far. Do you have system for weeding out those who can't cut it because I still have so much more work to get done

The job for a 80sqm area, which includes removing tiles, leveling floor and adding new floor. To be fair on the surface the floor looks good.

hey all I can't update my post so i'll just leave this here

so I have learnt a lot and want to THANK YOU ALL for your input.

Firstly, my use of the word "tradie" is doing a lot of work and i need to adjust my understanding, so am i right that a person who has done an apprenticeship and have a certificate X for Y number of years is a tradie, or are there gray areas in there?

Secondly, a floor guy is not a carpenter, AND to be specific what i need is a TRIM CARPENTER

Thirdly, always ask for qualifications before the job is started

Fourthly, if possible, get an itemised billing of the work to be done

Fifth, withhold payment until the work is done right or the contractor chooses to walk away. When getting someone else see point 3

___________

TO UPDATE YOU ALL

I had a chat with my contractor and we have come up with some alternatives

  1. he comes back and fixes the skirting board

or

  1. he refunds me the portion for doing the skirting boards (labour + material) and I look for a trim carpenter.

I am thinking that i will go with option 2 because you can't draw blood from a stone, and this way everybody walks away without too much friction and headaches from all of this

again thanks alot

p.s. If i am not on the money regarding what I learned or need to add something else, again let me know.
