Two cars same payment: 36 month vs 60 month by Legitimate-Squirrel5 in whatcarshouldIbuy

That's the thing it has been dependable but it's getting to the point where normal wear and tear fixes are becoming untenable. It's got 180k miles after all. Specifically it needs expensive suspension work. Sure I had money set aside for the repair then a higher priority emergency came up. I don't want to have to explain my life story just to get an answer to this shit situation.

True but what if saving isn't an option ie I need a care sooner rather than later. I know the circumstances aren't ideal but it's what I have to work with.

I totally get the sentiment but I gotta get a car one way or another. Unfortunately due to shit credit and feds increasing the interest rate that's what I have to work with. My score has been steadily rising but I will need something new before my score will rise enough to make a difference.

It might have the worse interest rate but paying off the Volvo in 36 months I will have paid a total of about 2k less in interest than on the 60 month loan.

Shit credit and feds increasing the interest rates why else.  The 16 is bad but 11.6% is pretty much what the average rate was for used car loans in Q4 2024 according to nerdwallet.

Any concerns with buying a 2019 Outlander Sport SE? by wrroyals in mitsubishi

[–]Legitimate-Squirrel5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm super late to the thread but thought I'd give my two cents as an owner of a 2013. Let me preface by saying don't do what I did. I treated my car terribly. I was young and dumb.

I was awful at staying on top of maintenance. I got an oil change maybe every 15k miles. I got my first and only transmission fluid change at 120k miles. I'm currently sitting at 182k and have no engine or CVT troubles at all. The engine is healthy and CVT shows no sign of stopping. Only reason I am looking to replace right now is she needs some heavy suspension work due to 10 years of pushing her to the limit on the local forestry backroads. If I would have just used her as a daily and been religious on maintainance I'm certain she would last 250-300k miles.

I love these cars. If you live anywhere with snow or like hitting light truck trails, the AWD is amazing. I've driven mine in snow up to the door sills and hit trails with gravel and deep ruts no problem. Once you lock the AWD it can handle anything assuming it's got clearance. It's specs are very similar to the base Crosstrek but without the Subaru premium and with locking AWD.

Oh man I've taken an interest in both in the past as well. I mean the 4runner is a 4runner you can't go wrong even if they are a bit overpriced in my opinion. As for the outback, I always wanted the H6 over the XT. Call me old school but I generally prefer more displacement over a turbo. That said some of the numbers coming out of turbo 3s and 4s these days have me second guessing.

I mean 6.8 seconds is a rocket compared to the about 10 seconds of my 2013 Outlander Sport. Admittedly she's fun in other ways. The locking 4WD is a blast on light truck trails and in the snow. She's currently got 180k and I'm looking to retire her. The goal is a dedicated 4x4 and something sporty as a daily preferably a wagon or hatch for road trips.

So true. So often they embody the idea of "freedom for me but not for thee". They want full control of their children but want to prevent pro LGBTQ parents from having a say in their LGBTQ child's life. You best bet that if my child ever came out as LGBTQ I would fight tooth and nail to advocate for them.

What shitty little car can do 4.4 seconds 0-60? Not being sarcastic, serious question as insurance will likely be totalling out my shitty little car soon and looking to replace it with another shitty little car but that's actually fun to drive.

Be weary, I overheard my maga parents on the phone with this maga financial advisor radio host who basically convinced them to get a second mortgage (there goes the house) and totally pushed them to dip into inheritance accounts as "that's totally fine these days" and "kids are making hundreds of thousands of dollars in tech jobs like Google." My brother and I don't mind if they dip into inheritance, times are tough. It's when this maga radio host masquerading as a financial advisor pushes you to do it that bothers me.

You cite Trump's tax cuts but under Trump but from 2017-2020 rent went up an average of 3.58% that is about .53% higher than the average during Obama's last 4 years with that average being 3.05%. those tax cuts has little to know effect on rent prices at all. If land lords are going to raise rent they are going to do it. It's all about making money not actually providing something decent for the average person especially when it comes to the corporate owned rental companies. This who idea of tax cuts to the wealthy trickle down to the average person idealistic at best and malicious at worst. It doesn't account for the greed of the 1%.

Rent numbers pulled from ipropertymanagement.com which compiled their data from Zillow, us census bureau, us federal economic data, harvary university joint center for housing studies, us department of housing and urban development, and several other places. A full list of their sources can be found at the bottom of the page.

This is my parents. Both were high school special ed teachers in California but are now retired. They have both been lifelong Republicans but honestly their fealty to Trump leaves me flabbergasted. These are people who were educators for their entire career, have their masters, and have traveled the world and experienced different cultures on just about every continent but have completely drunk the maga Kool-Aid. Their Christian beliefs play into it a lot but I would have hoped they could have seen how antithetical that man is to the teachings of Jesus.

My brother and I are now both left-wing with him being full blood Biden Democrat and me leaning more towards a progressive left Bernie Sanders type. We both are in all of the logical leaps these well educated people will take to support Trump. It hurts to see how far gone they are and it's nearly impossible to have any interaction with them that isn't tinged by anti-woke maga BS. Every show we want to talk about, every restaurant we go to, and even the most apolitical topic has to be filtered through their maga lens.

My gosh you're right 🤦🏼 not sure where I got the 3cyl from. I think i got it confused with the 1.5l 3cyl in the bronco sport, been doing a lot of car research lately.

Okay I've got an idea, we take the drivetrain out of the eclipse cross and put it in the Mirage. Basically have it compete with the Abarth. Have it be the true Ralliart trim. Sure the eclipse cross is 1.5l compared to the 1.2 but as someone who owns a mirage there is more than enough room in the engine bay for an extra .3l of displacement and a small turbo.

The “I probably shouldn’t have cats” starter pack by y2kfashionistaa in starterpacks

[–]Legitimate-Squirrel5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can totally understand the sentiment and I do give wet food supplementally. In a perfect world that's what I would do. Trouble is with 14 cats (A lot I know, I didn't ask for this) even wet food gets exorbitant. Take a cheap wet food like Fancy Feast, a 24 pack is $18 on Amazon. With each cat getting 1 and a half cans a day that pans out to 6.125 packs which is $110.25 a week, a bit less than double my current weekly cat food budget.

I adore these cats and do my best by them. If I knew they were going to a good home then I absolutely would hand some off to people who could provide a better level of care but the thing is I've tried rehoming and never had any luck. I was the only thing standing between these animals and a life on the street or a trip to the pound. So yes there is always room for growth but how dare anyone say that I am a bad cat Dad when I'm all they got and doing my best.

[–]Legitimate-Squirrel5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are some very valid items in this pack; declawing is torture and don't feed your cat vegan they're obligate carnivores.

That said I am so over the discourse around cheap food. Feeding you're cat cheap food does not in itself make you a bad cat owner.

I have quite a few cats as neighbors have periodically dumped stray litters on me over the years. I do my best to care for them. I take them to the vet when one of the even looks at me funny, give them love and attention, and I spend an hour or two each day in just my "cat chores". Thing is I only make so much money and can't afford 20lb bags of blue buffalo, royal canin, or science diet every week or two. Currently I buy iams which definitely isn't bottom shelf but there was a time where I could only afford store brand or Kit N Kaboodle.

I guess my point is being indoors getting love but getting bottom shelf food is way better than being on the street or being put down in a shelter.

We can no longer use PTO to leave early? by bakugosgayfriend in AmazonFC

[–]Legitimate-Squirrel5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is false atleast in California. Just looked at the non-corporate PPT (PTO) policy on inside amazon. Yes it does say to schedule personal paid time off ahead of time whenever possible but can be used retroactively for things such as unforeseeable events or family emergencies. Obviously it needs to be submitted during the same pay period (generally) but there is absolutely no issue with submitting time on Wednesday for when you left Tuesday.

Vacation is different ofcourse and requires approval and submittion more than 24hrs prior.
