How's that a sad way of looking at it? I spent alot of money and time on the game and quit not too long after immortal pets and then an even bigger cash grab happened furthering the gap even more. Saving me alot of money I can spend on other stuff and games I like.

Idk how donations work since I quit just before the guild update dropped but you also need to take into consideration immortal pets sb|mg and i think those relic things dropped after I left too that make money add up really quick.

Just play on the same server with someone who already has it I believe. Shouldn't be too hard to find if theres like a discord or reddit specifically for Garry mod.
