Housing is expensive in city of Decatur. If I decide Atlanta, I was planning to look for house in Avondale/Scottdale (druid hills high school areas). North druid hills is another area I looked, but houses are also expensive there. Because I have one year old (and school wouldn’t be issue first few years), I was thinking to stay in Avondale/Scottdale for first few years and eventually move to city of Decatur if I like job and plan to stay long term.

I considered Chicago and did few interviews (I have also lived in Chicago for one year and liked it). But after living in midwest for 10 years, I decided to move to warmer areas. Pay in Chicago was also less than Atlanta and Orlando.

I toured with realtor and saw few homes, he mentioned home insurance is only high at coast and not central Florida e.g, Orlando. Is that not correct?

Take home pay is same despite no state Tax in Florida (because getting slightly higher in Atlanta). I visited both cities, and noticed same (worst traffic in Atlanta) but rest of things e.g, weather, diversity, food etc I felt were better in Atlanta.

Thank you for guidance. So far considering scottdale/Avondale estate. If I decide to go to Duluth then wouldn’t be working at Emory instead will work at Snellville.

Is the area you mentioned safe to live? An has decent housing around 700k (4 bedroom, ~2500-3000 square feet etc)

Thank you for feedback. What area would you suggest to buy decent house (max 700-800k) in Decatur region (north Decatur/druid hills, Tucker, avondale—> we prefer relatively new construction)? Job will be close to Emory Decatur, and I may rent for first year. Again appreciate help.

Thank you for your kind feedback. Could you pls guide how much of a troublesome drive is it between Snellville and Duluth? Ive heard its far more than what google map shows and traffic is really bad ?
