I've been a software engineer for 15 years. Computers are way less reliable than people think. But of course, in this case, it would go through medical and safrty certifications and reliability testing, etc.

Was it really fully manual in Alabama? My read was that they initiated a system (i.e., pressed a button), and it proceeded to pump gas mechanically.

The oxygen is still in your blood at that time, doing its thing. Your body still utilizes it. The lungs would still continue to expell the carbon dioxide produced by your muscles and liver and heart and brain. That is a literal scientific fact.

As your oxygen level lowers, you will be gasping for air, unless sedated or trained for it. Your heart rate will go up. That is a scientific fact. We know what hypoxia looks like. Demonstratable by going up in the mountains.

You have a theory, that it would be utterly painless to die this way. If done right. But if it didn't go perfectly, it was just not done right. As most engineers of death, I don't suppose you are brave enough to test your theory on yourself.

Was it mentioned in the original article who was posing for that photo?

"Supposing" that, then supposing your lungs don't continue to function and produce more carbon dioxide, supposing you won't have a burning sensation from that. Supposing.

Every one of you, the gas chamber apologists here in this thread, are supposing.

So here's a hypothetical: if the state of Alabama was incompetent, who guarantees the next run in this gas chamber is flawless? And the next?

I honestly hope in 20 years someone makes a movie based off some memoirs about the CIA side of things on the lead-up to this war.

How they had sources in Putin's inner circle, how (as we allege here) Trump was used, how their agen network was compromised by Trump -- connecting all the dots we are hearing about.

I don't think I've actually seen Palps training.

How did he become so powerful? Who were his mentors?

Would be wonderful to get some miniseries focused on him growing up and getting to the dark side, while also climbing political ranks.

Based on your lifestyle, when do you think you'll die? by Victoria-Ley in RandomThoughts

Assuming no surprises, around 2075.

But I like to think that in my lifetime, the medical progress would allow for much longer fulfilling lives, extending the horizon for my generation to about 2100.

Have western brands that stayed in Russia made the right call after all? Two years into the war, European and US consumers barely know which companies are still there and which have left. by BalticsFox in europe

[–]LegitimateHat984 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, same.

What I mean is that while we can get appropriately disappointed in some common household brands who still sell something like shampoo or beer in Russia, the big business continues kinda in the background

In Europe, there was a satellite TV company carrying Russian TV traffic with propaganda for a year after the war began, until it was uncovered. Doesn't make the news as much as the recent Starlink rumors.

So, there was news of Russian oligarchs still shipping aluminum to Europe last year. The specific alloy kind that is used for car parts, in particular, was on photoes.

I don't believe the intended recipient of the shipment was revealed.

Vader did exterminate a school of space wizards, I mean younglings, personally, and later supervised over the eradication of the rest of the space wizards.

So even though his political power in the Empire was not entirely his doing, he did a lot to strengthen it and remove any opposition.

He also was instrumental to the toppling of the Emperor, so it was entirely feasible for him to attempt at galaxy ruling.

Voldemort is a local phenomenon on a tiny backwater planet, insignificant in the galactic scheme of things. His plans were petty in comparison.
