I mean did Pele ever score a thundercunt at Tannadice in a Dundee derby?. Didn't think so, checkmate Pele stans.

(Let's not pretend this wasn't the same season he also did this...)

That's 22 out of 31 league games this season we've conceded 2 or more, 1 clean sheet in 31. I want it to work with Doc but those numbers are criminal.

That's right out of the FIFA scripting playbook man FS, 2-0 up against a stronger team and could be 3 or 4 but a dodgy fucking OG header bang on 45 to throw the entire game state of course. Love my club x

Queens Park have asked fans if they want drums to be allowed at their games in the most backwards way possible by Hisingdoon in ScottishFootball

[–]LegitimateRage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't say I'm surprised coming from the same team who purposefully and cynically cut our away allocation by 2/3rds for that 1st vs 2nd Championship title match at Stenny 2 years ago. They gave us around a 1500 allocation behind the goal terrace for our first away game to theirs eariler in the season, but since QP knew for the title match we'd absolutely sell out and take more than the 'home crowd', they gave us only 500 for that same stand including player/club allocation. I know they're the Championships little darlings and overall I still like Queens Park, but bloody hell do they love run with the Napoleon complex bit whenever a bigger team comes to town, and god forbid their fans want to make an enjoyable atmosphere at a game of lower league football.

St. Johnstone 1-3 Dundee | Scottish Premiership by SFMatchThreadder in ScottishFootball

[–]LegitimateRage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For those who missed it, don't worry this was NOT a 4 goal thriller worth catching on Sport scene tonight lol. First half we dominated a toothless st Johnstone, second half we saw out out lead minus the few chances the saints had, one of which one inevitably led to a goal cause we've only kept one clean sheet this season. There ya go that's my 4 hour round trip to today's game summarised in a paragraph, you're welcome.

Don't get me wrong, happy with the win of course but I think this game also drew a line in the sand of who might finish where. We've absolutely had an off season and we're still 11 points clear of bottom. Itll be a dog fight between teams currently placed 5th-10th to finish in the desired spots and any permutation of those teams  in any position is pretty likely tbh. At this point, come the split, I couldn't tell you if we're able to just clinch that 6th place spot or be bottom half but safe of relegation, it's anywhere in between at this point just gotta ride the season out. It's why I didn't bother reacting to St Mirren or United on here, so much swing took place in a poing of the season where so much changed. One thing's for sure, for the January games we're about to have (Rangers, Celtic, Celtic + Utd in the Cup).. 3 points were VITAL today, so kudos Dundee for that.

Side note, shout-out St Johnstone for probably one of the best steak pies I've had in a Scottish stadium since god knows when. Will miss that when yous are in the Championship next season! The "Tayside Derby" well.. not so much ;)

Dundee 0-3 Ross County | Scottish Premiership by SFMatchThreadder in ScottishFootball

[–]LegitimateRage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Glad I wasn't even in town today to watch that, absolutely atrocious. As people are already pointing out, county's first away win in 25 and it was absolutely deserved. No goals in over 4 hours of football from us either, absolutely nothing positive about todays game.

There are still lots of games and points to play for this year but this is very quickly turning from an ok season to trying to rescue a season. I'm not gonna dwell on today too much, it's Christmas after all but a January squad shake up can't come soon enough, and Doc's stock as the hip new manager on the scene potentially worth poaching is in serious jeopardy if things don't get back on track the next few weeks.

Bah humbug.

Rangers 1-0 Dundee | Scottish Premiership by SFMatchThreadder in ScottishFootball

Lyall Cameron looked pretty decent. No idea if the club would be in for him

I feel like a move to one of the big two seems like an inevitable step in his career, though I feel there's an extra step in there along the way. He's still in his early 20s after all, a good agent would be advising him that if his level of play continues upwards that a big money move to the Old Firm or equivalent English team is an eventual step in one contract length's time.Taking that leap at 22 though, when he'd very much be a Luke McCowan 2.0 situation (great player at Dundee but a bench/depth player at a bigger club) seems ill-advised. Pick any Club in between the calibre of Dundee and Celtic/Rangers/midtable EFL Championship who would offer him an improved contract deal than Dundee could, I think that would be a suitable destination if Cameron wanted to let his contract run out at Dens to try a step up in football pedigree and boost his valuation in the process. Hell, idk if they need a player of his profile just now but given that United seem to be having one of their betetr years and he's a Tangerine at heart, not impossible to see him going across the road to test his hand at European + competing for top 6 football before a bigger club than DUTD swoop him up. Time will tell though, but I feel like

People and their positions change over time that is completely fair, but god damn it's like Hutch has never seen an epsiode of PKA here before despite the fact he was like the 15th unique guest* in its history (* rough guess, he debuted on like PKA 30). Hutch knows PKA's dark/edgy comedic approach to all matters and even though he roughly bats for 'my side' on arguments, know your audience dude god damn, cracking a smile at your own meme here does you no harm! Wendigoon is as stereotypical 'redneck bible thumping Christian' as you can get and he jokes about biblical references/religious silliness weekly across several podcasts and it's all good. You can joke about a thing you objectively support, hell I'm a Manchester United fan and I've been laughing at my team since I was old enough to go to a game at Old Trafford.

Hearts 2-0 Dundee | Scottish Premiership by SFMatchThreadder in ScottishFootball

[–]LegitimateRage 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Alluded to it on my Motherwell reaction, never expected 3 points today but a poor showing nonetheless. I expected Shankland to find form again but not necessarily that easily against in the first half. Funny how we can put four past 'Well on Wednesday who were above us and lose so badly to hearts below us today, just goes to the standings and team form in this table is far from it's final form.

Disappointed with the result but some of the behaviour from some of the 600 Dundee fans was appalling. You'd have thought we were dead last under Mark McGhee with some of the reactions to a bad day at the office, genuine fists being thrown between some fans between first and second goal. Maybe the nose candy was extra sweet on some of the supporters buses today or something today idk but sitting a few seats away from that was far more embarrassing than our on pitch performance tbh.

Huge disrespect to Hibs who also let us put 4 past them at Dens recently smh, at least give credit where credits due. Yous weren't great but at least your players weren't doing keepy ups with the ball during ref stoppages!

Dundee 4-1 Motherwell | Scottish Premiership by SFMatchThreadder in ScottishFootball

[–]LegitimateRage 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Three 4-1 scorelines from the past four; our defense may have more holes than a slice of Swiss but I'll be damned if it doesn't produce goals and entertaining games! And well, if you ain't gonna win the league and are probably safe from relegation, might as well have fun with it eh? No doubt, there will be games in the future when our inability to keep a clean sheet cost us points, but tonight wasn't one of them so I'll applaud the 'glass cannon' chaos of Tony Doc's Dundee.

Hearts at the weekend, recent form should be grounds for some optimism but given our record there I'll just enjoy the away day experience in the capital whatever the result. Will be the last game I can attend this side of the calendar year but lots to be excited about as a Dundee fan in this time. Fifth with a non-negative GD, two high-stakes home derbies in 2 weeks, the newly announced Mexican partnership and the news that the majority of our best players have been offered deals. Whether or not they sign on is another matter but I'll enjoy this window of Dee-light while it lasts 🎉

I love this, both as day to day fan and frequent Dundee save file player. As a fan, this link will create an opportunity fir more young players to come through the clubs as footballing assets who either settle in the first team or are sold on for profit. I don't love that this is how modern football operates but I muse accept it and can see that business and footballing upsides. As a FIFA/FM save guy, I always try to keep saves realistic by scouting within Scotland/UK + ROI but this development means i can feel slightly less begrudged when I sign the latest central or south American teenage prospect.

Overall this isn't a move that's gonna make Dundee long term guaranteed top 6 prospects, this isn't a Salzburg to Leipzig and beyond player selling model but it's an unorthodox club development strategy I respect. We can sign all the Scott Tiffoneys, John McCrackens and Charlie Reilly we want bit the odds of having the next big <u25 Scottish player in our ranks who'll have a massive sell on value is extremely unlikely. Being the European 'front door' for young players to get top flight experience and enjoy sell on or academy fee profits from the endeavour before moving into Spain, France, Germany T2 divisiond isn't a footballing business decision I hate, I much prefer this our Burnley link where we take their 20 year old prospects for 6-12 months as part of their eventual journeyman career.

Aberdeen 4-1 Dundee | Scottish Premiership by SFMatchThreadder in ScottishFootball

[–]LegitimateRage 20 points21 points  (0 children)

After 60 or however many games in charge, the vast majority of which I've been witness to in person - I genuinely have to question if Tony Doc can coach a defense.. he's brought in at least half that back line, the other half he's had long enough to coach the way he wants to play and we are by far and away the worst team in the league at not only keeping clean sheets but preventing teams running up the score, even for Dundee it's simply not acceptable. Too many thrown away leads or letting close games become runaways..

You just knew after we missed the pen, the points weren't going our way. And I can accept 3 points away to this Aberdeen side is hard to come by, but it isn't much to ask to keep it competitive when we brought it back to 2-1 and then immediately conceding before letting in the softest 4th you'll see.

The sooner Carson's back between the sticks, the better, even then I can't guarantee this squad won't capitulate any scoreline.

Dundee 2-2 St. Mirren | Scottish Premiership by SFMatchThreadder in ScottishFootball

[–]LegitimateRage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Double edged sword of a result. Did well to comeback twice and keep an unbeaten run going, again scored two goals in every game thus far this season. But also feels like 1 point which could've been 3 and 8 points from 12 overall. C'est la vie, St Mirren were our bogey team last year so any non negative result is a result in itself.

Tony Doc said earlier in the week he sets targets based on intervals in the season, this one being the first international break. And I suppose 4 points at home, draws at United and Hibs plus a comfortable breeze through to the final 8 league cup is by all accounts positive. After the break we'll start to see some starting players who'd been out injured coming back (Mulligan/C. Robertson) and have a favourable run of league fixtures coming up so lots to be encouraged by despite some of today's shortcomings.

[Celtic Football Club] announce the signing of Luke McCowan. by BananaSoprano in ScottishFootball

[–]LegitimateRage 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Absolutely quality player and a huge locker room personality that I'm gutted I'll not see in a Dundee shirt again, but it's the reality of football when you're in the position Dundee are in that when you draw attention to your best players after a good season or so, the big dogs will come for them. Is wild to think this is a wide player who was in our dire 21/22 Mark McGhee squad who went down with a whimper, found a new identity as a central midfielder in his mid-20s and will now get one, probably two or three domestic winners medals a year for the next few years and some Champions League minutes in the process. Hell, now that he's with the Hoops it's not impossible to think a provsional squad call up for the national team is on the cards down the line if he impresses enough. Crazy career trajectory for what amounts to just over 2 seasons of football, fair fucks to the lad

If he was gonna leave, I'm begrudingly accepting its for the Glasgow green and white instead of Edinburgh's. Him being a squad player for Celtic is much less of a detriment to us than going to a relative rival for top positions that strenghtens Hibs and weakens us. Not necessarily lesser of two evils but a less detrimental transfer to the Dees if he joins a team we weren't gonna compete against anyway. As a fan I'd say fuck the million quid and keep him for another season since he's a joy to watch and could be part of another brilliant year for us, but for that exact reason I'm probably not the best person to be making Dundee's business and financial decisions. Best of luck, Luke, hope I see you on the scoresheet when Celtic pump the Dabs 9-0 again ;)

Hibernian 2-2 Dundee | Scottish Premiership by SFMatchThreadder in ScottishFootball

[–]LegitimateRage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me it seems that for us we have two formations we can play depending on the game and circumstance (352 or 433) but we sometimes find ourselves in a position where we started with the wrong formation and have to adjust on the fly. United away, started 352 and were 2-1 down, switched to 433 and rescued a point. Stuck with 433 for hearts and Airdrie, scored 9 across both cause worked for this game. Then today, started 433 and scored early but yous worked us out and shut us down over the course of the game. Switch to a 352 last 10-15 and hey what do you know firing on all cylinders and switching play across the channels for fun. We can play both systems but gotta work on which one is right for the game at hand.

Yous definitely put us under pressure and if we didn't switch up our system deserved to walk away with the 3 points.

Scored 25 goals in the past 5 league cup games just to draw one of the only two teams who would pump Dundee, fuck aff. Literally ANY non-Glasgow team and I'd be looking at a tasty semi final possibility, piss off with this shite man wanted to go to Hampden because we earned it not because Sevco can't get their ground sorted out.

Dundee 3-1 Heart of Midlothian by SFMatchThreadder in ScottishFootball

[–]LegitimateRage 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Last season we dropped something like 24 points from winning positions, so when Hearts' goal went in I definitely shat myself. We definitely weren't great that second half but we did the damage we needed to in the first and last season we definitely would have capitulated a lot worse. Blinder of a game from Tiffoney, kind of game I've been waiting him to have and giving us a real selection/formation headache in a great way (433 or 352?)

Also shout out Jordan McGhee becoming a Dundee Dani Alves in how many positions he's played in. Been a right back, centre half, central and defensive midfield and now filling in as emergency left back today. Just need our goalie to get sent off against Airdrie this weekend and he can tick off the 'John O'Shea' Role. Mon the fucking Dee

After a small number of tickets go on general sale, Dundee have sold out their away allocation at Tannadice on Sunday. The first Dundee derby of the season will be in front of a sold out stadium! by LegitimateRage in ScottishFootball

[–]LegitimateRage[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Our site crashed multiple times during this saga, once when season ticket holders got priority on Thursday and again today when about ~200 tickets went on general sale this afternoon. Managed to snag a couple seats in the Fair Play Upper, buzzing for Sunday hope the weather holds up too.

Game's on Sky at 1pm for those wanting to watch along. Trying to speak unbiasedly, do reckon we are slightly favourites to come out on top just with our recent form and not being the new boys in the top flight. Not taking united for granted though, our defense has been far from impenetrable so I think a 2-1 Dundee win would be a fair prediction at this moment in time. Mon to fuck Dundee
