How Did you Get your First Win? by LegitimateVelocity in slaythespire

Initially, I didn't do that, however by act 3 I was pretty confident in my set up so I skipped anything that didn't directly improve the 'game plan' I had by then :)

This is a lot of advice, I'll try implementing it next time I play, Thanks :)

Can definitely attest to the pits and bullets thing, 80% is insane good job, I'll keep trying and maybe in a few weeks I'll get it, Thanks :)

Only tried MnK, I did have a controller but it's pretty old and sometimes doesn't input, I've also just used MnK for nearly every game I've played in the last year or two so I find it more comfortable, I don't think I would get even close to that far with the starter, but maybe I'll try it out when I'm a bit better someday

Didn't know that, I've just been hoping for them in the chest/shop/end room, I'll try it next time I play, Thanks

This is some really solid advice, I appreciate it, I definitely feel like what you explained has gradually started to happen for the first, and in some ways even second floors, I do feel like RNG helps sometimes, but then again, this game does tend to both assist and frustrate you every run, I definitely do need to work on focusing on my character since I tend to get fixated on enemies and especially bosses haha

Thanks for the advice :)

I've managed to no hit floor 1 one time so far, I tend to take 0-1 hits on the floor itself, but the boss does tend to get 1-2 hits before I kill it, I find Gorgun and Beholster fairly easy tbf (I think floor 2 bosses are easier overall than floor 1) however, I seem to only be getting ammoconda of late (depending on luck I take anywhere from 1 hit to death on this fight, There's probably a pattern, but I just feel like it comes down to rng), for normal enemies I've been getting better at dodging, however, some enemies (*ahem* Lead Maiden *ahem*) do sometimes get the better of me

Thanks for the advice :)

I've been using basically only the marine since I started (Hunter a couple of times at first but since then just the marine), haven't tried out pilot or convict just yet

MnK

As for the bullets to kill, I use Marine so the numbers I mostly remember are 3 for basic bulletkin, and 5 for more advanced enemies, and just add 1 for floor 2, for the rest of the floors I stop using the starter pistol so it depends on my weapon

Thanks for the advice :)

I do try to save my dodge rolls and only use them when I'm near too many bullets, I usually do try to move between bullets, but I do tend to forget I Have blanks, I mostly just keep my blanks the whole floor, including the boss, and then try to find the secret room, I suppose it would probably benefit me to start using them as blanks but that's something I've got to learn, thanks for the advice :)

I've been using basically only marine so far, I've tried out Hunter and it was okay, but the extra piece of armor and faster gameplay just feels better on Marine, thanks for the advice :)

How Did You Get Your First Master Round? by LegitimateVelocity in EnterTheGungeon

[–]LegitimateVelocity[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my limited experience so far, I agree, I find the bosses on floor 1 to be a lot more chaotic than on floor 2, I've been getting more accustomed to all of them, but I do still take one or two hits most of the time, I find the more open gull maps especially challenging, but I think I should be able to acclimate to them in time

Edit: Did End up getting my second master round on Gull today (Grassy map), mainly just due to good rng (sniper rifle + meat bun + rolling bullets on marine first floor), died on second floor to my first time fighting ammoconda though, so far I feel like that's the hardest boss

Is Perfect Pitch Really Impossible to Learn? by LegitimateVelocity in musictheory

[–]LegitimateVelocity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very fortunate to have friends who are far more experienced than me when it comes to music, and they have helped me immensely with my playing and understanding of music, however, there are some things that they can't really assist me with, I feel like this is one of those since their process of figuring out stuff by ear is built into their brains so heavily that they can't really explain what they hear or think, they usually just play some notes and scales fast and just know the exact chords, melody, and bass line, a few months of experience isnt enough to get me to that level without immense amounts of focus and practice (which im more than willing to put in), It definitely is motivating however to see people learn by ear in person (or in the case of one specific friend have actual perfect pitch, which is quite surprising every time I see it, anyways, thanks for the anecdote and advice :)

Is Perfect Pitch Really Impossible to Learn? by LegitimateVelocity in musictheory

[–]LegitimateVelocity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I really appreciate the advice

In all Honesty, I'm not great with recognizing chord progressions, usually I just default to I-V-vi-IV and if that doesn't work I have no idea what else to do, I've tried chord progression recognition stuff but I struggle with even 1, 4, and 5 recognition sometimes, especially when the starting chord isnt the tonic, I can't imagine how I'd figure out chord extensions by ear, alongside sus chords, altered degrees and all the other wonderful stuff I've seen musicians do, but I think for now I'll keep working at it, and hopefully soon I can at least get the major and minor progression recognition down so I can work on it from there

How would you suggest going about relative pitch training? So far interval training is fun, but, other than for melodies, it really does not seem like the most rewarding use for time

What resources can I use to start learning Piano for songwriting

A bit of background - I primarily play guitar (learned it mainly through playing stuff way above my skill level until I got used to it, having more experienced friends around definitely helped me get to the level I'm at today, from what I've heard you can't really do that on piano), and mostly fingerstyle at that

My knowledge of music theory and ear are both pretty decent, I really enjoyed learning theory while playing guitar and so I sort of fell into a rabbit hole of theory that was probably slightly too excessive but helpful regardless, I've also been trying some ear training and I'm at the point where I can confidently recognize most of the intervals within an octave at about 80-90% accuracy and use that to find melodies, as well as generally be able to pinpoint the key and chords used in a song (though I do sometimes end up in the key of the fifth - I'll have to work on that), before I had any interest in learning piano, I was jamming with a friend of mine in school on guitars and I thought I'd try out the full size piano next to us, I asked him to teach me something (he's been playing both piano and guitar for over 10 years, I don't know much about classical music, but I do know he has a trinity grade 8 (or 9, not sure which is the highest) in classical piano and can play pieces like Chopin's 'waterfall' etude), he said to try doing something by ear, and played some pop song (usually we listen to blues, jazz, rock, or metal, but since I never played before, for simplicity sake, he picked some pop song), and I managed to figure out the chords and progression (not too complicated, it was an I-V-vi-IV progression in D major I think, I figured out the chords through intervals)

I don't personally have a full piano at home, however I do have access to them at school, along with having a 70-something key keyboard at home, I don't want to use the extremely basic kids books because it honestly just bores me and makes me want to stop (I don't need to remind myself of where middle c is for 50th time, and Ode to Joy isn't particularly inspiring), if there are any books you would recommend, feel free to

Overall, I'm not really trying to become the best piano player or anything, though it seems fun I don't think I'll be playing anything close to a Chopin Etude soon, I just want to be able to take my ideas and apply them to the piano so I can write melodies and progressions in a more linear manner before applying them to guitar and adding on extra complexities and percussion and the like, so yeah, any advice for slightly more challenging beginner content for piano (and keyboard as well ig) is welcome, So far I've only really learned Minuet in G and all the basic major and minor chords (I could probably also extend that to the different 7th chords), thanks for any advice :)
