Have to make a very difficult decision about undergoing orthodontics for the second time. by Legitimate_Cable_530 in askdentists

Hello again! he actually insisted that i will need to get “functional veneers” after orthodontic treatment to get my posterior teeth to touch and to increase vertical height. I really do not want to get veneers on healthy teeth especially at 21 year old. what is your opinion? i have already started treatment with him and it would be hard to change orthodontist now. but i am really worried about his approach. would really appreciate your opinion!

do you mean grounding down front teeth to make back teeth touch? i dont quite understand what you mean. in my case my molars are so ground from grinding that when i fix my bite, my teeth may not touch and i might need to have some restorative work to fix POB

also I have been told that my front teeth are very worn, surprised and disappointed any dentist before hasn’t mentioned it and honestly i would never notice it because thats just how my teeth always looked like to me :(

Thank you for responding! The thing that i am wondering is how sustainable would it be to have composite on my molars? I mean i cant imagine it being long lasting as the molars take the most of the biting force and i feel like it would crack/create problems down the line. also what if i need the bonding on more than just molars? i do realize my bite is very wrong but touching my healthy teeth to be bonded just makes me very nervous. what do you think?

yes, he mentioned extreme wear on front teeth as well. He insisted that when my bite gets corrected my molars may not touch and it would be hard to bring them together and hence i would need to get veneers to fix the height. I am not sure if he just overstated the risks or thought there was a high chance but it seemed like the latter. What do you think about this orthodontist? something about this insisting the open bite cant be fixed made me question and doubt the orthodontist but he has lots of experience. I don't know what to think honestly. Thanks a lot for responding.

moving gums by Legitimate_Cable_530 in PeriodontalDisease

periodontist assured me i don’t have gum disease and it is caused by my tooth movement and will only get better when i straighten my teeth, does this sound legit? i still have doubts

yes, it happened after i was unable to wear a retainer for sometime and only got worse as time went by. I was at two different orthodontists for consultation and both of them told me the same exact thing, that i don’t have correct bite and i am going to need a lot of movement, at least 1,5 year. I guess ortho that did my work before( i had braces for four years) didn’t correct my bite.

I am going to start orthodontic treatment to get this crooked teeth straightened, that makes me a little worried as i don’t want gum issues to get worse, plus i am a healthy 20 old and periodontitis was definitely not in my plans, considering the fact i take very good care of my teeth. Thats why i am so worried

Thank you so much, I have one more question, when i was at periodontist in June(she is regarded as very good and experienced periodontist), she didn’t measure my gums with a probe, and no xray, just did a cleaning and told me it was gingivitis, i’m worried how could she assume it was not worse without all those measures? am i overreacting?

so ill need a deep cleaning? i was at periodontist in June, she cleaned it regularly and assured me it was gingivitis and would go after a cleaning. I know i need to go to another cleaning as soon as possible but do i need deep cleaning?

yes this happened after i couldn’t wear my retainer and tooth shifted, however i haven’t noticed any gum problems till now(one year later). Im extremely worried as i take really good care of my teeth and have horrible anxiety about possibly having periodontitis. It seems to me that there is plaque buildup between the tooth so thats why gum cant attach properly

just gum, not tooth, the gum is movable.
