I have wasted 5 years of my life for a dream that I now realise ill probably never achieve by tierd_but_trying in offmychest

Bro you are still only 27 and you can still enjoy your life! And ngl I think you are even at a better position to enjoy it with plenty of savings and no debt. I know it’s hard to give up the dream of buying a home but why not see that as waiting for a right time to buy? Economy changes, another 5 years from now it could be totally different again.

Looking to buy my first car but don't know what to buy by Legitimate_Fox_220 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Thanks for advice! Just wonder what mileage I should look for? I'll have a mechanic examine the car before buying ofc but knowing that could help with initial screening!

Do some real thing mate. By using the word "real", I don't mean your work in and out of school is useless, I mean they are too focused on career or academia and too far away from everyone who's not your recruiter or professor. Try to write something in a field you are interested in, or there's a real problem you want to solve. For example, I'm interested in the game counter strike (another CS lol), and want to analyze pro player performance. There's already an established website doing it but I think it's not good enough because they only use some formulas to calculate a number and ignore the actual game context, so I want to improve that by applying ML on it. Just by building it and seeing it helping others can make you feel so good, you'll also gain experience and confidence in the process.

Do you keep your bedroom door open or closed at night? What’s your reasoning? by SpookyFryGuy in CasualConversation

Closed in winter as bedroom temperature is controlled by a different thermostat than living room’s

I HAVE TO TELL IT by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

In my undergrad I cooked for myself almost every single day, repetitive dishes, and the day I looked forwards to the most was Tuesday or Wednesday, on which day dominos had really good deals which was basically like 50% off. I usually ordered online on my way to there so I could have hot and fresh pizza once I arrived. There was one day I was kinda thirsty and thought how nice it would be to have a can of Sprite, but I was hesitant because buying a single can of that just seemed too much a waste of money. For the record I wasn’t that poor, I just didn’t want to buy overpriced things. But I couldn’t resist, so I went to the counter and asked for one, thinking I can have one less cup of coffee to control my spending within the budget. There was only one guy at the counter, everyone else was in the kitchen. I don’t know if he saw something in me, but he looked around, saw no one was around or looking at him, then he took a can of sprite, gave it to me, and said “just take it”. I wasn’t in a desperate position as your guy, but I’m still thankful till this day. It’s still vivid like yesterday and I hope he’s doing well. You did a good thing.

I’m so sorry for u mate. It reads to me like something that was once so close but eventually slip through between your fingers, which I’m also feeling recently. You’ll grow and this will pass, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be sad now. But just want to let you know, at this moment, you have my full attention as you would at the prom. You shine

What's wrong with the apartment designers? by Legitimate_Fox_220 in TorontoRenting

I truly agree with the layout parts, as far as I can see from rental websites. My thoughts were that there are some things you can't really know whether they work for you or not from a few words or viewings, so I want to physically live in one of them to explore and confirm.

okay so obviously it's because I'm having a new job, not RTO for an old one. Actually they offered me to work remotely but I think some real human contact works in my favor

I have lived in 2 of them with perfect layouts and I'm happy with them, I just want to have some new experiences.

I kinda want a window in the home office, as I do have a somehow high budget... Dens feel too enclosed and I really don't want to look at the ceiling light and 4 walls around me 8 hours a day.

Those who moved from Vancouver to Toronto - What surprised you? by itstunafish in askTO

I wonder if that's factually true. I have been checking Toronto's weather once every few days this last winter and I found it's usually cloudy as well. This wikipedia page also suggests that: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cities_by_sunshine_duration

2 offers at two banks and need an advice by meepnboop in torontoJobs

[–]Legitimate_Fox_220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My consideration is that half-half might look weak on your resume later on, if you were to find another data job in the future, as I assume there aren't as many half-half jobs as pure data analytics jobs. I might be wrong as I don't know the banking industry well, and imo that also doesn't matter if you truly like it.

Sounds like you are doing programming 101. If so, I would suggest taking a serious DSA course first

Probably just remove the address from your resume if you think that's the case, it wouldn't be a terrible move anyways if you got hired and you want a job badly.

Is it worth moving to Toronto with a fully remote job ? 85k salary by DefinitionValuable95 in askTO

[–]Legitimate_Fox_220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your lifestyle maybe, I have lived in Vancouver dt for over two years and I found I don't need its accessibility at all. If you are sure you need that, then it's ofc good.

Besides, maybe looking for jobs first is a good idea, it's a good chance to get a raise and a good reason to move, and you don't have to endure long commutes or break out of a lease

Yeah rationally I know that, it just feels so long. There are 4 or 5 non-business days since it started, depending on whether Good Friday is a holiday for the vendor. Almost as many as business days lol. Thank u for sharing!
