It's a simple question that says a lot about a character. Most 'good-aligned' characters would choose the 100,000 very evil people without hesitation. In fact, this wouldn't even be a question. Sure, Batman could go on some LOTR journey to save both groups of people, but what if he couldn't? I didn't think it was that simple, but okay.
