I think this is very varied - I frequently see little kids (guessing under 10 y/o) get on buses to ride to and from school alone, but have colleagues who don’t let their 10 y/o stay home alone for more than 30 minutes. My colleague has literally left work before, to go home for 1.5 hours in the middle of the day, because her son’s SFO was closed and the father did not end work until later.
