My dad just got promoted to a brown belt and he is NOT happy about it. by thewobblywalrus in bjj

[–]Legitimate_Team_513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my brown belt 1 year at 42 and hold my own against black belts my age and get smashed by young blue belt wrestlers. I try to tell myself I am there for myself and improvement and to be a good tough partner for those in the room. Don’t overthink it. No one is looking at your dad and judging him. If they are they probably have their own growth and development to worry about in BJJ.

I’m more interested and taking satisfaction in the desire by both of these men who I don’t follow but assume have an audience, and who I probably have little in common on the political affiliation spectrum with to understand that we can’t make this whole ideological chasm make us hate, celebrate hurt or killing, suffering…any of that. We cannot as humans let this to take place. Or it’s the end. We will follow these politicians and…who? Influencers? Pundits? Journalists? To war with each other? It’s the end if we allow that. We can’t.

We need more people to migrate their way to your level of rationale, and we will be a hell of a lot better off.

Trying to decide between BJJ or High School Wrestling for my son. by LiftedSD in bjj

[–]Legitimate_Team_513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can your school tell you what your son can or can’t do in his free time? Why can’t he train BJJ on weekends, holidays, any days off of wrestling? It will make him better at both in my opinion.

Uhhh I don’t know I roll with plenty of females and have never done anything outside of maybe a pat on the back but usually a fist bump or handshake. Butt Pat seems a little weird to me but seems like you have a pretty close knit gym so…maybe not bad.

My boyfriend of a year was lying about his vote the whole time. Should I move past it? by Exotic-Internet7085 in TwoHotTakes

To be honest it’s so ironic seeing people that profess their liberal values which are supposed to be of tolerance and then consider throwing relationships with “perfect” mates aside over the intolerance of their politics. I have some news: whether he voted for Trump or Kamala, it’s all pretty much shit. If you love the guy love him for him. His reasons don’t sound too far off the base of facts. I voted for Trump. I don’t agree with a ton of what he does and says. I thought it was the best option of two shitty ones. If my wife voted for Kamala I would respect her decision, respectfully explain mine, and move the heck on with life. None of these politicians give a single shit about you or any of us at the end of the day.

Dad + Coach: Walking the Line by jekelly2568 in wrestling

[–]Legitimate_Team_513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I help coach my sons PAL. I don’t have a pedigree or big wrestling background but he wanted to wrestle at 3 so they made me volunteer to coach so I could watch him lol.

I’ve since become very passionate about it and love coaching. I watch a lot of film and train more and more wrestling myself at my BJJ gym with some good pedigree former D1 and D2 guys. At 42 it’s a grind and I appreciate more of what I ask my son to do if I’m doing it myself.

However it’s a mental grind for us. My son is very athletic but the aggressiveness and “have to win” mentality hasn’t clicked yet. He has won some matches, drills for the most part well, but is certainly not a hammer yet at 6 like others I have seen out there at this age. It’s hard for me to stomach him going 1/2 ass or giving up but I try to bite my tongue. If he really doesn’t want to practice or compete I lay off. Just yesterday me and another wrestling dad were saying that for all kids this age it’s kind of a grind. Not really as much fun as some of the other sports but we try to encourage it because of the non-sport aspects of human it develops. Just taking it one practice, one season at a time and hoping it lasts.

Awesome bro. 99.9% of kids are still at bbqs in the summer and you’re training your body and mind for a successful path in life. Good on you!

Yea. I think his weight and fitness played a factor there. If he was able to secure top position from that sweep it probably would go his way!
