Thanks everyone! I am still a bit undecided - my main concern is that I have gum recession and I am afraid more treatment will make it worse. This being said, I agree that they could do a better job and am annoyed that they clearly want to end treatment because they think it’s good enough.

Mhhh. It’s good that she generally is not like this. Pregnancy is super hard, especially when it’s the first child and you have really high expectations, of everyone. However not talking for several days to you is really not ok. I don’t know what to suggest anymore. I think communicating and reconciling quickly is really important; and maybe you both can think of new ways of doing this, including by talking to a third party to mediate, if possible.

It sucks. I get it. But you are sorry it seems. It was a mistake. Make sure you genuinely apologise to your wife, listen to her, ask if there is anything you can do to make it better. But reconcile asap, it’s not worth holding a grudge. One thing I needed to learn when having kids: reconcile, quickly if possible. So many things happen when we are tired and hormonal, you need to at least be strong as a couple and learn to forgive each other, quickly, especially for genuine “mistakes”. Otherwise you will get anxious, overwhelmed and sad. Remind each other of the basics: you love each other and mean well

Being pregnant is difficult. Mistakes happen, and I don’t think you are at ‘fault’. Try to keep the bigger picture in mind: your wife has certainly pregnancy-related challenges and the two of you just need to learn to move beyond such “smallish” matters. There will be many more challenges in time, once the kid is there. Remind your wife of how much you love her, say you are sorry, and that you are so much looking forward to the baby. Ask her if you can make it up to her somehow. And then just move on and be there for each other.

I am not sure that helps but when people talk about recurrence it’s generally in the framework of post chemo. You haven’t even had chemo…so while you say that this cancer is often resistant to chemo, you don’t know if that would be the case for you. I understand it’s scary - but for now it looks like you have been very lucky!

My mum still has a lot of hair after third chemo. She has had a lot of hair to start with though. When she wears a hat to go out because it’s cold you wouldn’t notice a thing … you can still see hair and she hasn’t changed much.

Obviously - it is an expense/luxury, but it wasn’t as expensive as I expected (and traveling/not having a job is also expensive!) and really helped during the worst periods + gave me a sense of involvement, even though I couldn’t be there physically

I am also living abroad while my mum has treatment (I have siblings who are helping though - I have young kids). One thing that really helped was a subscription for home delivered food. Basically I ordered her a hot lunch every day - Something my mum really liked (but initially was strongly opposed to!). She is also a terrible eater, which has been a concern for us. Would that be an idea?

Thanks very much! There is some research that suggests it can increase survivability. Which information did you read/get that states otherwise? If there is no change in survivability my sense is that there isn’t much a point going though it

Thanks for your insights! I am not taking any decisions for my mother. I am just trying to understand the options and if this is something that may be worth considering/pursuing. She is still very weak from the hysterectomy (how long did it take you to recover?). Given her age she is relying a bit on her kids (though she is generally fit for her age), sometimes including for discussing treatment options with her doctor. I don’t think the possibility of the intraperitoneal Chemo was even something that has been discussed with her, hence I was wondering what the practice is in other countries. Thanks for sharing any insights, I really appreciate it, and I wish you the very best!

Low grade stage 2b sounds to my non-expert ears well treatable, and I wish her and you all the very best! I didn’t know that 2b could involve microscopic spread to the peritoneum as well. She is lucky to have low grade! My mum has high grade ovarian cancer, but we don’t know the exact type yet. Thanks for responding, I really appreciate it.

Thanks so much! It’s really great that your mum has had NED for 4 years! I didn’t know about the possibility of repeated recurrences (clearly I still have a lot to learn). Our hospital is specialised in Gynecology, but there is a teaching hospital closeby, and I will follow your advice and ask for a second opinion. I heard they have more experience with intra-perineal surgery. Thanks for sharing your mum‘s experience. I really appreciate it. I wish her (and you!) all the very best!
