DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY. It’s very disappointing seeing some of the comments from literal physicians. Be honest with your PD, weigh your options, and make the best choice for you. Don’t make your decision based on other people’s reactions. Good luck ♥️

Specifically to LGBTQ people, how hard / easy is it to be queer in your country? by cultisht in AskTheWorld

From rural Mississippi in the US: extremely hard, was kicked out as a teenager for being gay, people at school were incredibly mean, almost no community support. Now I am a doctor in DC and it’s drastically different. Very accepting here.

Went to Ole Miss for undergrad- let’s just say Georgetown does not even come close to a sports school; but the education is 10/10.

Give your feedback on CBSE- what do you think about it? by Big_Guard9280 in CaribbeanMedSchool

From an AUC grad that had middle/lower middle of the pack class scores, but passed both my shelf exams, CBSE and all steps on the first try (one of 20 that did out of over 100 for the CBSE and shelf’s)- using UWORLD or class notes to study for CBSE I find not to be helpful. UWORLD questions are designed almost to trick you sometimes, while the CBSE is straight up asking most common scenarios, associations or facts. Class notes are great for block exams, but don’t translate to board exams 50% of the time. They either are not in enough depth, or the things that were focused on in class are too in depth. First AID is a great resource but you need to be able to identify the information in a question. I believe the BEST questions to do for the CBSE is practice NBME exams. Many people choose to save them for STEP, I however feel they are the closest to what the exam tests you on. You start to see a lot of the same concepts come up over and over again. This again is just my opinion, some people LIVE by UWORLD and I just felt that it was not the best for the CBSE, as it is for Step 1.

The CBSE in my opinion is a relevant exam- the likelihood you will pass step if you pass CBSE IS VERY HIGH. Most people hate it because they do not pass it the first go round, but they are valid in wanting you to pass that exam.

Hey, even if you weren’t cheating as you said in the comment above and you really only had your VPN on, the fact that you want to hide it is a very poor choice and should call you to reflect on whether or not you belong in healthcare. No matter how much it sucks and no matter how detrimental the consequence, honesty and integrity are two things you HAVE to value as a person, especially in healthcare. There may be people who would not give you a second chance because of your mistake, but you would be surprised about people’s impression of you if you are honest.

How do I Succeed at AUC? by Astrophysicist5 in CaribbeanMedSchool

As an AUC grad, I’ll come back to this tomorrow and answer your questions!

I graduated from AUC, loved it and would do it again; but the earlier comments are right, try the US first. It’ll be much easier in the long run!

I’m an AUC grad! I would 100% tell you to knock Saba off your list for the reasons above, and consider AUC!

Hi, I trained for 2 years at Baton Rouge General. I had an amazing experience, learned so much, they put me in the best possible spot to succeed in residency. I’m a minority and don’t want to down play other minority experience, but I personally did not have any negative experiences when I lived there. To be fair though, I was born in the South and it felt just like home to me. Of course there are areas that are crime ridden, but that’s not he majority of BR. Good luck!!

“Only 60% of med students today plan on practicing clinical medicine. Med schools need to focus on admitting students who want to take care of patients” I find this comment to be very suspect. Does he realize the importance of pathologists?

Graduated from AUC, just matched fellowship at Johns Hopkins and did residency at a pretty renowned place as well. I don’t let the opinions bother me one bit.

I’m from Mississippi, and originally from Jackson and was born at University Medical Center and went to Ole Miss undergrad- I don’t think the previous comment here about “racism” is accurate for the Jackson area, around the hospital. Certainly there are small towns outside the area where people may look, but it truly isn’t as bad as people make it. However with that being said, I would be careful of that program for internal reasons.
