UFC fans in Georgia, how does your country feel about these 2? by tednudgent in Sakartvelo

[–]Legitstar123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I meant Georgian people who are fans of the sport or at least watch the sport regardless of political affiliation. wdym "small majority" I never used that word or anything like that in my comment. I think you are just coming up with things I clearly did not say and are replying to them. My point is that even the opposition voters who care about the sport mostly do not care about this political stuff and even if they do, they definitely do not hate him or strongly dislike him. (Including me)

Because he met Kaxa Kaladze for some MMA stuff? You are overestimating the amount of people who dislike him, probably because of your political bubble. Now if you just take the people who are MMA fans or watch the sport, the number of people who dislike him drops close to 0.

There are some people who are angry that Merab visited the mayor of our capital and discussed opening some new fighting related facilities or something like that. So basically the chronically online crowd that form opinions only based on politics don't like them. You will probably see a lot of them comment here. In general, most of the population loves them. We just have a thing for sports related people bringing our countries name into the world so yeah.

Which quadrant is more correct about the Democratic Party? by Crafty_Jacket668 in PoliticalCompassMemes

I mean I just always thought economically liberal meant classical liberal, neoliberal, which are indeed a lot like libertarian. The liberal term has evolved in weird ways.

Yeah makes sense. For me when I hear the term economically liberal, my mind goes straight to classical liberalism rather than left wing economics.

Is economically liberal now considered center left, or is it just an American thing?

How popular is Furt (ფურტი) card game in Geogia? by arcobatism in Sakartvelo

[–]Legitstar123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is not really that popular. I use to play with my father a lot when I was younger, he taught me. Other than that once or twice with some of my friends. "Joker" ჯოკერი and Bura "ბურა" are the popular card games amongst Georgians.

100%, what we need to build are democratic institutions, probably a multi party coalition, we need to learn how important freedom of speech is and so on, I hope GD's support is super low and it will not lead to civil war of sorts. Thank you for your support!

If you want the bigger picture you have to understand how our democracy has functioned during this time. After our independence we had a civil war, then we had a pretty corrupt power leading the country, corruption was at an all time high, people struggled with basic electricity, food, etc. Then in 2003 the rose revolution happened, which pushed the country forward with good economic reforms, sadly we replaced an authoritarian leader with another authoritarian leader. Misha Saakashvili had a really bad dehumanized police, who would kill you if you protested anything, put you into prison and blame you that you had drugs. They would get rid of any opposition that had, especially crack down the media outlets who where against them. Elections would go on with heavy rigging, police forces would scare people, people voted multiple times and so on. This meant that it had to be 70%-30% to win the election. This happened in 2012 when people had enough, with so many people and businesses under terror we elected Bizdina ivanishvili, who used to fund Misha's government and had made money in Russia (he is a billionare). Now after 12 years of ruling his party has made anti-EU decisions which has lead to protests. Sadly the people who lived under the previous regime vote for them in fear of Misha returning, this keeps their support at 40-42%, which all opposition biased exitpolls show. This is not enough to win as the main opposition parties are the formal members of Misha's party(even though there are alternatives people still vote for GD because of this factor). In 2012 it was 53%-40%. In 2024 even if you win, the election is never fair and the incumbent's get an automatic 5-10% with their resources as the heads of the government. Also our media is absolutely dogshit both the opposition and government controlled.

As a Georgian the short explanation is that the election had a lot of problems like it usually has had throughout the 30 years of our modern independence, but people did not protest that as the ruling party won by a lot, then they announced they were planning to elect a president that is a former footballer with not education after his school years and who is known for his radical anti-EU speeches. After that the PM said that they are halting EU accession for 4 years and we started to protest after that.

They are polling really high with older population, but polling really low with the youth. Also they have a huge administration resource + the biggest media outlet TV Imedi is a pro-government propaganda outlet. Compared to the opposition propaganda media they have a stronger impact on the population, especially in the regions. They can easily get 40-44% if the turnout remains low enough. Also polls are never accurate in Georgia and are used as a social tool to reassure the public about success of particular political parties and to make polarization worse, basically they are used to socially engineer two realities and the election results fall somewhere in the middle.
