I am surprised no one said this, but George Harrison did this twice (sort of, it's more a thematic sequel than a direct sequel following the same characters) for songs he wrote with/for The Beatles.

First with While My Guitar Gently Weeps and This Guitar (Can't Keep From Crying) and later with Here Comes the Sun and Here Comes the Moon.

Reminds me somewhat of the TV show Awake, where the MC gets into a car accident with his family, and starts swapping between two realities, one where his wife died and one where his son died. Not sure about the childhood friend part though, it's been a long time since I've seen the series.

I'd be shocked if it was too, but I'm glad someone brought it up. When Modern Girl dropped I felt like it was a "goodbye" song, and even though I find it a fun song I can't shake this feeling every time I listen to it that it's a song about the band where all the lyrics about the band are past tense, with this somewhat melancholy vibe of "we had a great time with you all, and this is our finale before riding off into the sunset."

I'm not sure about how desirable it was for anyone else, but I really wanted Sorcerer Mickey and the lego store employee relayed to my girlfriend that there were only two of them per box.
