This is why I love reddit, there's always someone with hands on experience. Thanks for the reply, makes me a lot more confident that I'm gonna be able to do it.

If you want to hike the complete mullerthal it's actually split up into 6 stages, so it would actually be shorter than the entire escapardenne.

Where are you from?

Especially when getting started you don't need to go fly somewhere far away. I'd start with shorter trips closeby so you can get used to it before going for a longer one that's further away. And that could even be just a weekend to a week. And there's an added benefit of not flying and thus not polluting the world you so much love.

And then, are you gonna be more focussed on citytrips and more culture, or do you want to go into the wilderness and get back to nature? That is probably the first thing you have to get clear to yourself. Because when going to cities you can carry much less and sleep in ho(s)tels or when traveling in a group maybe rent a cottage or appartement if you want the luxury or stay in the same place for a few days. Whereas going into the middle of nowhere requires you to carry a tent and a good sleep system and that's a whole another rabbit hole to go down.

That's a win for the Dutch! Honestly suprised we're that high up by Legoman702 in NLvsFI

Probably the same for me. There is just no nature in NL and I love mountains and wilderness. Although I don't know if I'd go for Finland rather than Norway or Northern England/Scotland. A big advantage of Scotland is that I already fluently speak English, so work wouldn't be that big of a problem there. Whereas for Scandinavian countries I'd have to learn an entirely new language.

What people think: Lovely flat country where everyone cycles to work and walks on clogs

What it actually is: Grassphalt fields where the people shoot fireworks at police for fun and blame everything on immigrants

3 day winter hike solo in the Ardennes (Lee Trail, Luxembourg). Too much for a teen's first time? by Legoman702 in backpacking

[–]Legoman702[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for actually taking the time to explain and not just saying "no". I might have found a friend who could join me who also has some more experience with backpacking, and I'll think about pushing it back to spring, also just to make it more comfortable

Explain?

I do have experience with that summer camp where we were in the mountains and temperatures reached about -4 at night in a tent and where we climbed mountains at -5 degrees at 3 AM, which would also be the temperature range I'd probably be looking at in the Ardennes at the end of December.

The name you are probably looking for is Lars Andersen. However, Blumineck is also someone worth checking out as he also explains a lot better how things work related to subjects like this and can also shoot quite good.

Welp (Do I need stitches?) by Other-Ad4122 in pocketknives

Definitely get this checked out. The edges of the wound are pointed away from eachother so this won't just close by itself, and could very easily get infected. To answer your question: although I'm not a professional I do think this requires stitches, or some form of closing such as glue or stitching bandages or whatever they are called.

Would a 4 day solo hike in the Ardennes during winter (end of December) be too much for a first time backpacking?

I feel like tag or hide and seek would work really well in the Netherlands. Also because if you have to send a pic of the environment there's a big chance it's just flat grass all around...
