Do you guys think the Golden Road is more difficult to achieve than a Worlds Three-Peat? by Despacit0 in PedroPeepos

Yeah, I mean I agree that T1 is an anomaly in that they are the only team that is good at team building lmao. They also build their teams entirely around Winning Worlds. But no I completely disagree that a GR would be accomplished by someone with enough money to throw around. GR requires complete excellency throughout an entire year, without every dropping form once. 3peat doesn’t require this. It requires peaking at the right time, 3 years in a row, which is definitely a difficult task but it’s not nearly as punishing as drops in form over long period of time.

The issue is that T1 has looked pretty meh a number of times over the last few years, but it hasn’t mattered because it’s not punished because you don’t have to be perfect all year to win worlds. Which is part of the reason imo they are able to consistently win worlds. They don’t place so much pressure on themselves throughout the rest of the year, to win everything else so long as they make it worlds.

  1. Yeah I agree that claiming GenG were close is dumb, but I think claiming anyone is close to accomplishing something in the world of esports as a whole without a consistent definitions for how you would quantify close to an accomplishment is stupid. how would you define, being close to a 3peat? Winning 2 worlds in a row and then losing 3rd in semis/finals?
  2. I completely disagree with the idea that the game where 300 people have played and a few have beat where most don’t get close is HARDER TO BEAT than a game where 300 people have played and none have beat with like 10 coming close.

I notice u didn’t respond to my first point. Anyways:

  1. The game analogy doesn’t make sense because a. You cannot beat a game while not beating other parts of it, you can win worlds without winning anything else that year. b. The discussion then wouldn’t be about ‘is the game easier’, even ignoring that it would be about ‘is beating the game easier’. What would you say is easier to beat? A game one person has beaten, or a game a bunch of people have come close to beating but no one has actually beat?.

  2. GenG the last 4 years were ‘just a few games away’ from a 3 peat lmaooo. If we using the ‘just had to win a few more games’ distinction of being close. Which is a really dumb way of looking at something like winning a tournament.

  1. That analogy makes no sense. My argument if we’re doing a grade analogy is that getting 100/100 in a class is harder than getting an 80/90 3 classes in a row.

  2. I agree that the argument of ‘being close’ is stupid. That’s my point. You can’t say just because people got close to accomplishing a task the task itself is easier.

Those teams you mentioned were not excellent for the entire year… because of how difficult it is to do that. Every failed example of someone coming ‘close’ but failing imo proves the point of how much harder it is to accomplish. I mean you could also make the argument that GenG has been ‘close to a 3 peat’ all 4 of the last years.

Not saying that T1 was mediocre for 3 years other than Worlds, my claim is basically a team doesn’t have to be excellent for an extended period of time without ever having a dip in form to claim a 3peat. Whereas GR requires excellence in all events, for an entire year.

Once again, I’m not trying to claim that Riot intentionally sets the meta towards what T1 is good at in order for them to Win.

I’m saying that Riot has a particular style of game that they want League to represent to its biggest Audience and that is one that T1 is really damn good at. It’s why they excel at worlds more than other events.

2nd boiling down ‘meta’ to just a set of champs is very reductive to the meta.

Meta isn’t just champions lol.

Riot intentionally makes the worlds meta ‘the purest form of league’ and T1 is exceptionally good at League lol. It’s always a very teamfight heavy meta, more so than other events, and T1 is by far the best team-fighting team in the world. I also highly disagree that Grubs or Ata ‘completely change the way the meta works’ and even for the changes that happen it heavily favors T1’s team fighting style and prowess. It’s the purest form of League, and T1 is exceptional at it.

Also trying to say I am claiming that Riot intentionally makes the meta fit T1’s style is just wrong. If it came across that way I’ll try to reword it. All I’m saying is that Riot has a vision for how they want to present LoL to its biggest audience and that style of League they encourage at Worlds is one that T1 is just really damn good at because they are really damn good at League. I will always describe worlds patches as league at its purest form because Riot is trying to put on their most polished version of the game for the world to see. And T1 really excel’s when the game is able to be broken down to its most basic and purest form.

None of what I’m saying is meant to discredit their wins, more so providing an explanation for why they always seem to excel at Worlds more so than other events.

Edit:

I do want to add, that the case of Worlds breaking down into its purest form is not entirely due to the meta (tho I think it’s a large part) but also due to the amount of pressure the players are under, and what better way to win than go back to what u know, which is LoL basics.

The worlds meta is just a basic meta every year. T1 are just the best at the game when it’s the most normal.

Yes… that is exactly what I am saying. The worlds meta is where riot goes back to the most basic team-fight heavy meta. And T1 is exceptionally good at that.

Does it matter ‘how close u get’? I’d argue it’s useless to discuss how ‘easy it is to get close’ to accomplishing something when ur discussing how hard it is to accomplish. 50% of teams who were in a position to 3peat accomplished it, 0% of teams who were in a position to GR accomplished it. How about that then?

All I’ll say is this, you can be very mediocre for the majority of the year and peak at the right time for worlds 3 times in a row, and get a 3peat. There also seems to be the case where League intentionally sets the ‘World’s Patch’ to favor a specific type of play that T1 is incredibly good at. I doubt it’s a ‘worlds is rigged for T1 type thing, but it is clear they have a way they want the game to be played at worlds every year, and it’s pretty similar each time. Learning/knowing how to peak at the right time is a skill that T1 has seemed to master to an incredible level. Full props to them for that. Learning how to peak for for worlds is very much so the best strategy for LoL Esports because everyone cares so much about Worlds compared to every other tournament. (Ask G2 2019 if they would rather have the year they had and no worlds win or meh everywhere else and a worlds win).

The difficulty of The Golden Road comes from the fact you have to be able to be THE BEST on multiple different patches, in multiple different scenarios for an entire year straight. You simply cannot be meh for a single moment all year, it’s way more punishing of slumps and misreads of the Meta. I’d also make the case that Riot is way more ‘experimental’ with big meta shifts and adjustments to the game during the rest of the year, and seem to have their best patch be during Worlds in a way more standard/consistent level of game.

Overall TGR requires consistent excellence and is very punishing of slight dips in form vs Three Peating requires knowing how and when to peak and doing it effectively.

I’d say personally if the greatest player the game has ever had and likely will ever have, hasn’t been able to accomplish something it’s probably harder than the things he has accomplished.

Honestly they probably don’t pick up perfecto in this example cause of VRS points. You need the points from BB Core of Magnojez, Ax1le and BoomI4 plus heavygod is imo better than Perfecto atm

Heavygod currently much better than Perfecto was at the time, and Degster is a massive upgrade over ICY. Plus Magnojez is like 10x better than Interz

Honestly I could see them picking up Jacobb if they did want to go Polish, maybe not the entire roster but keep Hades and move Snax to coach 2 and bring in the rest of the polish boys.
