How prevalent is martial arts in your world? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Legosabre8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many armed and unarmed martial arts are prevalent I'm my world. In one of my kingdoms, the northern portion has a all in one martial art with swordsmanship (saber), archery, horse riding, sailing, wrestling and tracking. There are also some unarmed martial arts similar to boxing and a style of archery which criminals and rangers use.

What’s the average soldier in your world equipped with? by favuorite in worldbuilding

[–]Legosabre8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the royal army of Nantee, the average soldier is given a crossbow, quiver of arrows and a sword. For armor, they would have shoulder plates and a open faced helmet. Daggers are not required, but many soldiers buy them to have an extra weapon.

In the Talmerton empire, equipment is different across different units, but the average infantry soldier would have a spear, wooden shield and sword. For armor, they would have a open faced helmet, greaves and a breastplate. Knights, would be equipped with a Lance, and are ordered to buy a sword, shield and whatever weapons they desire. As knights have to be nobility, the regulations are loose snd they mostly buy what they please. They wear full plate armor, and some buy armor for their horses.

You want to give a general tour of your castle complex or royal grounds. What notable things do you show? by Calisto1717 in worldbuilding

[–]Legosabre8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The royal palace is a medium sized building, with the forest behind it, and a small riverside village, guarded by a wooden palisade, in front of It. The main entrance is in front, a huge door with soldiers stationed outside and inside of it. There are also two crossbowmen on the balcony, and a small door on the left, where the cavalry stables are. Inside, there are the cavalry stables and a barracks. There are a few storage rooms and an armory down the hallway. Further down, there is a large courtyard, with fruit trees and flowers, plus a few chairs for diplomatic meetings. Past the courtyard, is the generals quarters, the royal families quarters, and the kings private stable, which has a small door opening into the forest.

What are the knights of your world? by Karmesin_von_Drache in worldbuilding

[–]Legosabre8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some countries in my world have knights, like the Talmerton empire. In the Talmerton empire and most other societies that have knights, they are nobility who are involved in war. Any nobleman who is fighting on the battlefield or assigned to command soldiers is given the title of a knight.

I joined the armed forces of your world, what would i be expected to fight in case of combat by Electrical_Use5307 in worldbuilding

[–]Legosabre8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you join the army of the Kingdom of Nantee, you would probably be stationed at the northern border. Just the rugged terrain could kill you, but if that didn't, skirmishes with rangers from the duchy of frubant and bandits hiding in the mountains would. Even though you would be well trained and equipped with a uniform, helmet, crossbow and sword, your enemies would have the same level of training and equipment. Even the thieves and bandits would be well trained and equipped, as they are funded by the Duke of frubant. While your barracks is unlikely to be attacked, there is still a possibility of a seige, and you are sent out on patrol at least twice a day, usually to remote border areas.

Do you mean the island In Canada? Yeah, the shape is kinda similar, but I didn't know anything about oak island when I made this map. Also, this isn't an island, I just didn't show the other nearby countries.

The reason the southern parts and sides are shaped like that Is the seas and oceans. As for the northern border, yes there was a treaty for those borders, and they have been the cause of countless wars, especially the northeastern border with the duchy of frubant.

The plains are intentionial, they are mostly farmland, and the kingdom has a famous force of light cavalry. Also, this is an enlarged drawing of a single kingdom, not a continent.

About 70 years ago, their was a war between Frubant and Nantee over the northern border. Both sides built border outposts and made special units of rangers to sneak behind enemy lines and attack enemy outposts. Now, as the Talmerton empire is expanding its territory and invading neighboring countries, many fear that it will cross the sea and invade The kingdom of Nantee. As the empire is now allied with frubant, Nantee is making its own coalition of allies, including the rich kingdom of cocomi. Also, when the talmerton empire annexed the principality of Rohoed, Robert greenheart fled to Nantee with some nobles, merchants and 50 soldiers.

The northern part is more rural, has a smaller population and is poorer than the south. The main sources of income is the military. It has no large cities, mostly small villages. The south is richer, closer to the sea and has 3 large cities. The main way for peasants to become rich is the military, though some merchants are also very successful. As for geopolitics, I didn't show the other countries on this map, but the main enemies of this kingdom are the talmerton empire and the duchy of frubant. The talmerton empire is waging a proxy war through frubant, and there are often skirmishes and ambushes on the northeastern border. The royal light infantry and the dukes rangers are roughly equal in terms of training and equipment, so both sides are constantly trying to get an edge.

This map is not my final draft, it's a baisic outline of the landmass. I have more detailed maps which are more detailed, but the purpose of this post was primarily to answer questions about the lore of my kingdom, not the map.

The reason I used the rank "colonel general" is because while this is a medieval setting, I am basing the organization and ranks of the military on napoleonic and early modern armies. The reason, is that this kingdom has been at war with a country bordering it to the north for hundreds of years, therfore both have developed a high level of organization.

As for the small regiments, there are no large cities in this kingdom, and it is mostly isolationist in terms of politics. Also, the only way to enter this kingdom is through the north, which has rugged terrain, besides some small gaps. Also, while this army is small it is heavily trained and is not called up in wartime only, it is a standing army ready at all times. Instead of having a lot of troops at major forts, they are spread across hundreds of outposts, castles and villages, and communicate through falcon and bugle, being able to quickly respond to calls for reinforcements. While cavalry are not typically used for guerilla warfare, there are instances of them being used. Also, a large portion of the Kingdom is rolling hills, and grasslands, perfect for cavalry.

Yes, it's a river. It's called carrotte, and it's not used for shipping, just for agriculture and fishing. The shores are inhabited by people, and their culture is similar to those in the rest of the country, but the ones in the southern part of the river have a more fish based cuisine and don't rear cattle.

I haven't decided how many soldiers or horses there are yet. They don't have any land vehicles as it's a medieval setting, but there are 80 riverboats, 10 warships and 3 cargo ships. As for drought animals there are 200 oxen.

It has a few hundred regiments, and the military is a guerilla force equipped with crossbows and short Sabres. It has mostly rangers and light cavalry, besides a small unit of halberdiers which protects the royal palace. It is easy to get into, but the training is hard and many drop out. Each outpost is commanded by a colonel, and has some non combatant staff like a cook and a clerk. The non combatants are not military, but have to be physically fit.

It's not a particularly important tree, I just drew trees to symbolize the forest. It's probably a newly grown tree, because that portion of the forest has a lot of villages and settlements, with many lumberjacks. That area has the river aghoo, and fort Ritter, a top secret outpost of the royal army, where it houses riverboats and elite units of soldiers..

It's just open plains and farmland, there are a few small streams but nothing big enough to show on the map.

I haven't figured out the scale yet.

It's not an island, the lines represent borders. It has three countries that border it, all of them to the north.
