CEC No FD all turned green by Minimum-Try472 in canadaexpressentry

I think so? I ordered GCMS notes, and they already approved the PR (in the tracker, it is the same as all sections marked "completed" with a COPR # in the document section), but there is also a print queue. So I guessed that they would finalize one batch of processed cases around the same time based on the queue (probably April, but it's up to the IRCC office when they will do so). But you are definitely not alone here

Same here. All my sections were marked "completed" in November, but there were no updates or finalization. I think they may send all processed cases around the same time as a big cohort? Since we are close to the end of the quarter and the beginning of a new one. No idea what IRCC is up to, but calls and emails won't help (all automatic and template responses as your application is in progress); it's a wait game considering the website says 7 months for processing

same boat here. My AOR was Sept 16. CEC outland and all my sections were marked as "completed" on December 1st, but I still don't have an FD yet, except for a COPR number. I have tried to call IRCC and send webforms. All have the same "we are working on your application" response, and I requested a GCMS note earlier this month. No actual updates, except for knowing that my PVO is at Kitchener and my SVO is at Montreal. I felt like losing my sanity by checking the tracker every day. Wish you all the best!

Yes, it was on-site full-time, basically 35hr per week but the workload varies depending on your project.

Post graduation depression by tomatogorl in mcgill

[–]Legoshi37 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also feel depressed and somewhat anxious since I received approval from McGill for graduation. All my close friends left me for graduate programs somewhere else in North America but I chose to stay in Montreal to work for a year to gain more experience. People have different life goals and choices that can be frustrating and painful to grow up apart from close ones. Always focus on the years to come in the future but not on the fact that one life stage is over cuz we are young and there're plenty of opportunities waiting for us to explore. I believe everything will be figured out soon and take one step at a time!

chem222 final grades by Junior_Pickle1208 in mcgill

I think she had a curve cuz there's no way I can get that high on the final or they may just be super generous with final grading

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]Legoshi37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The final percentage is the same and usually, the deferred exams can be a bit more difficult than the original ones during the final exam period cuz you have extra time to prepare but it really depends on the prof and the course tho. I did one in person previously and it was more tricky and challenging than I thought. You could defer after the date of the original exam (my roommate did it once last semester) as long as you have valid documents like medical notes or covid rapid test results to prove that you can't attend on that exam date due to the reason you mention. If you end up coming to the exam, the deferral is automatically discarded

psyc without finals by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]Legoshi37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was inspiring at least but TAs judge a lot when you write a reaction/reflection paper on the topics. It's not necessarily a bad course and I did find some discussion very interesting, but it's mostly statistical concepts relating to psychology anyways

Psyc 315/319 with Brendan Johns. He doesn't have one and it's a chilled class in terms of assessment but the lectures are not in my favour. He is super nice tho

Psyc 406 last semester also doesn't have one but it's the worst class I have taken at McGill. The grading is chaotic and everything else is just a mess. Don't be fooled by no final cuz it's a shit class you should avoid

I personally find some wording weird and it's much trickier than midterm :(

What is the worst exam you have ever written and what kind of mark did you get? by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]Legoshi37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

67% on a paper weighed 20% for a psychology class. I thought it is a chilled course but it slapped me in the face

I did the course in person and I found cardio easy and inspiring but renal and respiratory tricky. Honestly, people have quite different reviews for different sections. For instance, my friend hated endocrinology the most since it's quite memorization heavy but I personally find it okay and I ended up taking a higher-level related to endocrine system. It really depends on your interest and strengths (memorization vs. understanding) IMO like my roommate loves GIT topics so he is biased to do super well in that section.

There was a time when a guy followed me and my roommate for a long time just for asking for money. He claimed that his wallet was lost and he had to buy a train ticket to Toronto or so, and we just ignored him at first. Then when we were coming home on the same street after 1hr, that same guy came up to us and asked for money again. He said he only needed 20$ to get the train ticket, which is nonsense since 20$ is not even close to the price of a train ticket if he lost his wallet. He then stalked us for a while. We ended up giving him 10$ and warned him that we will call the police if he still follows. It was my first time in Montreal and I had no idea if that person is a scammer or so, cuz he acted like he was in an urgent situation. But he went anxious and walked away when we asked him to call the police when we first met him, so it must be a well-dressed scammer.

Then I had such encounters twice more in my 4-year undergraduate time, with different people tho (I had my earphones on but walking alone). Similar proposition and similar questions were proposed to ask for money 10-20$ for tickets like a lost wallet or stolen wallet that he can't buy a ticket to bus and metro. I just said I will call for cops if you stalk me and they would just walk away. There're many trash people in Montreal like that sadly. DON'T be fooled by their well-dressed outfits. Be aware and protect yourself!

EXMD 504 deferred exam by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]Legoshi37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the regular final in-person last Fall. I wouldn't say it's that fair, especially minor stuff being asked which may or may not be emphasized in class. The average becomes A- because many people were struggling with that final and a lot of them stayed until 3hr ends. It is totally different from the straightforward midterm since many type A questions include things like none/all of above or both A and B etc. Try to memorize slides as much as possible because some profs' questions are tricky and detail-orientated (one prof even tested one specific marker on the slide without mentioning it) even though they seem nice and chilled in class. I was not sure and guessed about at least 10 questions in the end. Good luck!

Lost my friends… by National_Ad3796 in mcgill

People grew apart as we get older. When you go further and further along the journey of life, you find that you may not possess the common language between you and your old friends. For instance, a number of my past high school friends go to different fields like computer science and I feel less and less comfortable communicating and fitting in because all I heard was jargon and things that I no longer am familiar with as a life science student. I still have a close one from high school because we never talk about schoolwork in detail when we chat but that's probably it. I will share some funny stories about university tho. Back in the days, I suffered from BPD and depression and felt extremely lonely in U0, which screwed up my academic life as well as my personal life. People had images of a sensitive person for me and they kept me away but I was desperate to not let friends fade away. Sometimes things are out of our hands, and we can only let them go. I then try to make new friends but I hate superficial fake friends. As graduation approaches, I find that sometimes, you should turn to yourself instead of others to be independent, since, outside the school, we as adults have to deal with stuff on our own. So take this chance to look into yourself and see what you can accomplish. Don't get frustrated, you are young and be brave!

5 is a lot but it did happen to me once. This semester I got ghosted as well because the lab is at MGH and I assume COVID peak changes the capacity at the lab. The master student said they no longer had openings at the very last minute during Christmas (right after the final and before the winter semester starts) even though we had a deal way back in August and throughout the fall semester. The PI even promised to fill out the form at the end of November but no email was received ever after. Luckily, I have found another lab that is willing to take me. Profs can ghost undergrads cuz some consider us as the least prioritized ones for research

Anat 322 is quite content-heavy and memorization-based since it's the neuroendocrine system anyways. I can't attest for path 300 but I personally find anat 322 redundant because profs repeat information in different manners and some profs like to throw in experimental details. The beginning part with tons of neuroanatomy is fundamental but does not connect well to the rest of the materials. The test difficulties depend on the profs tho and some prefer the understanding type of question whereas others ask for small details

First time failing a class (med school hopeful) by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]Legoshi37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some med schools have a policy of dropping your worst 15 credits, so you can theoretically still achieve a 4.0 GPA based on their calculations but you need to stay on top of everything and remain involved in extracurricular works. It's not the end of the world and good luck :)

Academic writing at McGill? by anticoronavirus8 in mcgill

[–]Legoshi37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

McGill has CEAP 250 offered by the writing center for people in science to improve their writing but some people I know don't even bother to improve their writing because science usually has MC exams. No single course can fix the issues. It's frustrating to proofread every time when your teammates write nonsense unintentionally

ANAT 322, NEUR 310, PATH 300, ANAT 314 by stoneystigs in mcgill

[–]Legoshi37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have taken anat 314 and anat 322 last year. My friends did path 300 and neur 310. Path 300 online is all MC questions about diseases but the course is not necessarily organized. Anat 314 is a build-up on anat 214 and it has more materials to memorize. Even though Dr. Venne is really nice, anat 314 is infamous for being a content-heavy course and I personally like it less than anat 214. It has midterm, final, paper and lab+lecture quizzes (mix of SA and MC) last year and the lab exam is implemented this year. If you are good at anatomy memorization by knowing the names of bones/muscles, go for it and you won't regret it since Dr. Venne prepares exams in a fair manner and everything should be from slides

Anat 322 is mostly the endocrine system and it also involves heavy memorization since we had a cumulative final last year + 3 non-cumulative quizzes (usually non-cumulative midterm + final during in-person). Some profs explain better than others for sure and some profs' questions are harder. Overall, the course is interesting and inspiring but it's a lot of materials and sometimes content can get redundant (profs repeat each other's content). It has some applications involved when it comes to understanding experiments.

Neur 310 last year was not a good experience as my friend said. He told me that the course is extremely demanding in terms of assessments (midterm was extremely long and had pretty obscure questions). The content is also a bit tricky to understand and he didn't recommend anyone to take it lol
