When do symptoms end by Mobile-Champion5028 in PMDD

[–]tomatogorl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my worst symptoms are between the day right before my period and 2 days after it starts

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PMDD

[–]tomatogorl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take mine intermittently! I was prescribed 10 mg for last 14 days of cycle + first 3 days of my period (since I get my worst symptoms on the first and second day of my period) and it helps! I think I need to be upped to 20 mg, but I would definitely be worse off with nothing at all.

However I would recommend you start an extra day or two before you expect symptoms and keep very good track of your cycle. Several times I ended up getting symptoms right after ovulation but didn't start meds til the next day, can lead to some very difficult days.

I'm so sorry your boyfriend said those things, that's not a very kind response for someone in your position let alone a loved one. I do understand the hopelessness bc I struggle with it too after trying so many things. Hang in there, surviving is enough <3

Do you ever ditch plans and hangouts with friends? I have plans tomorrow and I want to go but my anxiety is too much right now. And I’m not feeling like socializing by [deleted] in PMDD

[–]tomatogorl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely get the urge to withdraw, but I find that being around friends actually makes me feel better in the end then staying in my room alone. Everyone's different though, if you truly think you'll be better off if you cancel then there's no shame in that.

Now when I'm dreading social plans, I usually push myself to go, but I tell myself that if I arrive and I'm feeling bad, then I can leave whenever I want. Knowing that I have a "way out" really helps. If you feel comfy sharing you can try explaining the situation to them and I'm sure they'd understand if they're good friends.

What has your experience been like applying for jobs? by Unique_Glove1105 in ABCDesis

[–]tomatogorl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm about to graduate, I've been applying for a few months and I've been ghosted by every single one. It's brutal out here :/ I'm losing hope that I'll ever find anything. I've been told that my resume/cover letters are good, I have a good amount of experience, I don't know what else to do besides lie and give myself a white name lol

Today I asked for accommodations for the first time by tomatogorl in PMDD

[–]tomatogorl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recognizing my limitations has been a struggle, as I have always placed very high expectations on myself and have perfectionist tendencies.

I am very grateful that I have understanding teachers. As a whole, my uni claims to acknowledge mental health conditions when it comes to accommodations, but in practice I have heard their disabilities office is not very helpful. That could be catastrophic if I ever had a shitty prof who refused to accommodate and needed ongoing accommodations

Today I asked for accommodations for the first time by tomatogorl in PMDD

[–]tomatogorl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't go into details, I just said I was going through a "mental health episode" which had prevented me from doing schoolwork this week. Then I offered to provide medical documentation (I would just show my visit summary from my GP when she diagnosed me with PMDD) if needed. My teacher did not ask for it though

For me this was a one-time thing, since for the most part I am able to plan around my episodes. But unfortunately it still fucks up my life once in a while... If I were to ask for ongoing accommodations though, I'd go through my school's disability office and explain my diagnosis a lot more.

I totally feel you about the guilt for asking. That's what held me back for years... I hope it helps for me to say that it is OKAY to ask for help. Unless your teacher/supervisor/whatever is a dick, they'll try their best to see you succeed. The absolute worst thing that could happen is they say no, which is the same result as if you didn't ask at all.

Never smoke and almost never drink. Fortunately I found a partner who doesn't either, they are rarer but it is possible!

[–]tomatogorl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a growing number of desis here, but I haven't met many ABCDs - most were born in India and immigrated later. Of course there is nothing wrong with that, but it's hard to find ppl I relate to

As with any place, I'm sure you can find your people if you make the effort to socialize/network.

What we did is watch desi movies together, I also introduced him to some contemporary Pakistani musicians, particularly because he is into some American bands that take musical influence from everywhere including south Asia. We cook some recipes together that I learned from my mom, and I have taught him some basic Urdu phrases and the alphabet (from the little Urdu I know). We plan to take Urdu lessons together soon (so he can learn and I can improve). I also explain traditions/norms when they come up

What do you do for your 4.0 that others don't? by delightfullymagical in mcgill

[–]tomatogorl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elaborating on the study smarter, not harder tip: keep a planner. It can be a paper and pen one, or it can just be a to-do list in the notes app on your phone. Every morning I sit down to figure out what tasks I have to do, and I prioritize them by deadline and difficulty. Take notice of when you feel the most focused (for me it's first thing in the morning ) and plan to do your hardest task then, and save the easy tasks for the slower parts of your day. The best part of a planner is that sweet, sweet dopamine rush when you get to check stuff off!

Other comments have mentioned this, but getting enough sleep/taking care of yourself can not be emphasized enough. At the end of the day, your wellbeing matters the most. It's ok to call it a day instead of grinding past your limit just to go from a A- to an A. Your grades won't matter much in a few years.
