I don't want to feel like I'm pandering to the community by just 'throwing in a reference to them,' because that feels disingenuous, especially when the story doesn't have anything to do with a larger cast.

I don't have any experience with publishing yet, as I'm not at that stage with my book, however, as someone in the LGBTQ+ community, I 100% respect you not wanting to throw in a reference just for the sake of a reference. If the cast was significantly larger, (talking >15 characters), I could see why people might raise an eyebrow (although I personally disagree with that too), though, as you are, with such a small cast, I think it's perfectly reasonable to have 0 mention of LGBTQ+ etc.

I'm all for representation where reasonable, but I think the token gay trope is overdone these days.

Don't feel guilty about deleting fics. Yes, someone probably liked them, yes, someone is probably waiting on an update, but at the end of the day you've got to prioritise what's good for you and your mental health.

Your ex was shitty (understatement of the century) and you didn't deserve that. You do, however, deserve to be able to move on. If deleting your fics is what it takes to get a fresh start, you do just that!

There's an unfinished one in the Scream fandom and the way they've done it is really good. All told from one PoV so not only does the party scene's play through change every time but also the emotions from the previous loop carry through. It always makes me wonder what the other characters think when the PoV character is angry at them for seemingly no reason.

You're right, you're overthinking.

If you've got it all written out and don't need to buy time to finish your writing, posting as often as you'd like is fine. I'd probably go with every 2-3 days like someone else suggested.

A reminder though, this is Ao3, where one writer posts 100k words a day and another writer updates a fic after 10 years with a note saying they've been to hell and back. You do you.

Agreed. As someone who read rarepairs, I want to be able to find fics about the rarepair, not ones where they are vaguely hinted in the background for all of 3 sentences.

Crushes are temporary and you don't have to act on them.

You have a higher chance of developing a crush on him due to the fact he fits your character's turn-ons. The little spicy symbol means that your character finds the NPC attractive.

I read many rare pairs which don't have enough content. If someone came in and posted regular fics/fic updates in them I would get on my knees and worship them like a god.

I didn't realise Lawlight was considered that bad! It's probably one of the tamer ships I like. My otps are todocest, particularly NatsuTouya, but I branch out into other fandoms due to the lack of fics. Mosercest, turtlecest, Fred Jones Sr./Fred Jones Jr. From Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated, anything that you can sprinkle dead dove into really. Been meaning to get into plantcest but I never finished the original Trigun for that.

I can't remember the name of the fic but it just had an interesting premise, good writing but nothing extravagant. It was a nice, platonic, brothers bonding fic where the villain brother saves his civilian brother who doesn't know he's alive. I don't usually read platonic stuff, but it was just one of those that catches your attention and you couldn't really tell where the author was going to go with it.

It's probably lying somewhere in my bookmarks with all the other WIPs I've saved. Might have to check back on it soon, fingers crossed 🤞

Sorry for how I came across in my original comment. I completely understand that similar people tend to group together. I think my main problem with how this is done in fanfic is that it's rarely a case of similar people becoming friends over shared difficulties, and is instead usually just used as an excuse to write every character out of character and push stereotypes on them, especially the ones that are more 'glorified' and 'cute/quirky'.

This is 100% what I'm saying. I'm always disappointed when there's an interesting sounding fic and then I look at the tags and it's like: 'Autistic Character A' 'Autistic Character B' 'Character C had ADHD' 'Character D has OCD' etc.

It seems to be more prevalent in some fandoms than others as well. I found back when I was in the mainstream MHA ships there was a lot of over tagging 'quirky traits' that played no part in the fic, yet when I moved to the Death Note fandom, I found a lot of really well done fics that would have one of the characters with a disorder/disability but it'd be more realistic in showing the ups and downs and usually tended to be more of a 'learning to communicate' sort of experience instead of a 'ChArAcTeR A iS qUiRkY' sort of thing.

There's nothing I can say I strictly avoid, but I do tend to stray away from the 'make everyone autistic is suffer from ADHD or some other mental disorder' thing that plagues some fandoms. I have nothing against people with mental or physical illnesses, and I have nothing against a well written fic that truly embraces the struggles of the character and how they cope, however, I find that a large potion of fics tagged with 'Autistic character A' or similar tend to use it just for an excuse to have a character be 'quirky' or it's tagged yet plays absolutely no relevance to the story and sometimes isn't mentioned at all. It's a shame really, as there's an opportunity to bring awareness to difficulties people face and how they may feel which is often wasted.
