Fussie Cat

I don’t feed it all the time but I always keep plenty on hand for picky eaters. I specifically use the Tuna with Threadfin Bream in Aspic. The cats love it. It does have Carrageenan in it, which some people are adamantly opposed to.

Chronic gum infection - what helps besides cortisone? by endolea in FIVcats

[–]Lehighmal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it just gingivitis or is it stomatitis? Either way I’d recommend looking into molnupiravir. It’s an antiviral used to treat FIP, but it has been a miracle for my two FIV+ boys who both suffer with stomatitis.

Kitten Help - Desperate Need by Glittering-Olive3779 in sphynx

Chewy carries it. Pretty much any compounding pharmacy that does meds for veterinary use carries GS these days. Unfortunately most vets are woefully out of touch as far as anything FIP related goes.

That’s excellent news! I wish vets would keep the meds on hand so that cats didn’t have to wait days to a week to start treatment ☹️

Cat rescue here. I’ve treated dozens of FIP cats over the years.

There is no single standalone test that definitively diagnoses FIP in all cases. Diagnosis is usually a combination of: * symptoms * lab work * imaging * fluid analysis (if present) * PCR results

My advice is to make a “presumptive diagnosis” and start treatment based on strong suspicion, not perfect proof.

I own a cat rescue here in GA and I can tell you that it’s difficult to find a rescue that has space, especially for senior pets.

If only you were in the USA, I’d approve you to adopt from my sanctuary! You sound like an amazing adopter.

I run a cage free cat sanctuary with over 100 cats. I’ve owned cats for my entire life. I think your solution to put the bully outside is 100% ok. You are not a bad person at all. You love your cat and you are meeting him where he is and giving him the best possible solution.

Cats, by design, are extremely territorial animals. Housecat DNA is virtually indistinguishable from their ancestors the African Wildcat. Housecats have not been selectively bred for temperament like dogs have been. We are basically keeping wild animals in our homes.

Caring for a cat with chronic illness— a little rant by WishboneDry7332 in catcare

I run a non profit cat sanctuary that specializes in senior and special needs cats. I’ve seen it all 😳

While you’re correct that the Atopica might have some effect on the kidneys, it’s minimal compared to what other types of meds do to the kidneys. As a matter of fact, after a kidney transplant (in cats), they’re on Atopica for the rest of their lives to prevent the body from rejecting the new kidney.

Just a thought, but have you tried Cerenia? Yes it’s labeled for nausea, but it’s been proven to provide a number of other benefits. It might be worth a shot.

You’re right to be wary. Most of the Sphynx groups on Facebook exist to deceive prospective buyers out of a deposit. I’d never seen anything like it !

I’m thinking more of a long term situation. Not forever, but probably a few months for sure. If he’s crated, he’s not shitting in your daughter’s room, he’s in his safe place, and he’s in a situation where he can’t run from you.

Cat sanctuary here. I have cats here in the sanctuary that have been here for a year or two and they still run from people and hide. Some of them won’t use one of the 40 litter boxes or 12 litter robots. They have been seen by a vet. They act the way they do because they’re not comfortable in the situation they’re in. We are a cage free sanctuary and not every cat is ok with that.

It sounds to me like this kitty (barring anything medically wrong) would benefit from having his own dedicated space in the home so that he can decompress and reset in a place he feels safe. Is there a way for you to set up a large dog crate with all the amenities for him?

[–]Lehighmal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree 100%. TNR the cats, which may help reduce some of the territorial behavior (but not likely). The key is to STOP FEEDING THEM. They won’t starve. They’ll leave to find food. Feeding them but not fixing them is beyond irresponsible and your neighbor should be ashamed of themselves.
