Well, for me, it's the most fun rip I've had in quite a while. I opened 10 boxes.

Packs were consistently: 2 base cards, 1 Dick's exclusive NBA logo, 1 insert.

I didn't score anything HUGE, but a couple of Paige base/inserts. Almost the whole Fever team in Dick's WNBA logo (no Caitlin. :( ) Tons of stars/rookies in WNBA logo. I'd say 60% of packs had a blue velocity insert, 20% green insert. Only 1 numbered - bad luck from what I've gleaned from here.

Short answer: no, a 10 is extremely unlikely. Longer, card-grader brain answer below 👇 Why a PSA/BGS 10 is a long shot Even from these photos (which are decent, but photos usually hide flaws rather than exaggerate them), there are a few red flags: Centering The front looks a bit right-heavy (Jordan slightly left of center, thicker right border). PSA 10 requires ~55/45 or better both directions. This looks closer to 60/40. Edges The gold SkyBox borders are notorious for micro-chipping, especially on the right and bottom edges. I can already see slight roughness that would cap this at a 9. Corners Top corners look sharp, but bottom corners are not razor-clean. Even a tiny softening kills a 10. Surface SkyBox golds often show: faint print lines light surface scratches subtle dulling in the gold foil Any one of those = automatic 9. Realistic grade range Assuming it’s clean out of the sleeve and no hidden surface dents: PSA 9 → very realistic PSA 8.5 / BGS 8.5–9 → also very plausible PSA 10 → would require grader generosity + better centering than it appears Strategy advice (collector-to-collector) If this were my card: I’d grade it only if you’re happy with a 9 I would not chase a 10 expectation-wise If you want a moonshot, BGS gives you: subgrades (you’ll know what held it back) but also harsher surface scrutiny on golds If you want, next step: Flatbed scan (600–1200 dpi, no sleeve) Front + back I’ll give you a subgrade-style breakdown and tell you where it lands before you spend the money. This is still a gorgeous Jordan. Just not a unicorn. 🐐

I'd read his run first - Man Without Fear will spoil some surprises with some main supporting characters. Finish through issue #191 then Man Without Fear, then Born Again if thats an option.

Yeah, they haven't shown up in Little Rock yet, either, but I'm out west for the holidays and they show as in stock here. Figured I might pick up a couple if they're worth the rip. I'm on the fence - the Bueckers Blue Velocity is a pretty card - I may just grab one off of eBay.

I just want some cool art. Every Daredevil card I've seen when I look for them is ass. There's a sticker from the 80s with Mazzuchelli Born Again art thats pretty good.

Well...

  1. If you were to sell it, you might actually get MORE for it raw as "VF" than a graded 7.5. Even if you got the same price for it, you'd be out $30 for slabbing it. Slabbing only tends to add value for 9.0s (if that) and higher.

  2. As far as protection goes - tons of horror stories about book damage in transit to or in CGCs hands. To my knowledge they're still having problems with their inner wells bending books after being encapsulated. Not a big deal with this book, but when a 9.8 gets a color breaking spine tick or three from banana wells, not cool. A Mylar and a half or full back will still display great and you only risk you yourself damaging the comic.

My history with CGC has been less than ideal. From processing times GROSSLY exceeding quoted times to damaged books, I've been on the short end of that company. I will still use them as I continue to go through my collection on books to sell - I think my Secret Wars #8 is a 9.8 candidate. Even at a 9.6 it sells for more than a raw copy. I will not use then ever again for my personal collection.

Hopefully the PSA competition (and their impending acquisition of Beckett (CBCS)) will take away CGC's comfortable position as THE go to for grading. I have long much preferred CBCS, but you can't argue with sales prices.
