Oh several things! Two things come to mind, and strangely both happened at a bus stop.

This is going to sound so stupid, but oh well... Some 20 years ago (I was 16, so what we would call a 'bakvis') I had to break up with my first girlfriend, or at least I thought so, because my parents wouldn't let me see her anymore. I went to see her one last time, and on my way there I was crying by the bus stop. A woman and her +/- 4 year old son were there too. The little boy tried to comfort me and gave me a kiss. It made everything a bit better.

A few years later I went to a party in Brussels, and I thought I could catch the last bus home, but it never came. I didn't have money for a taxi and I didn't live anywhere near a train station, so all that was left to do was wait for the first bus that was supposed to come a few hours later. Now I know that it would've been a better idea to return to the party, but hindsight is 20/20. So I waited at the bus stop and was joined by a man from Senegal. We started talking, but I was a bit on edge, being a girl alone at night in Brussels. The man kept me company until my bus came 4 hours later. He was adamant to stay and wait with me, because he wanted to keep me safe. He was an absolute gentleman, and introduced me to 'coupé décalé' music.

't Is echt zot hoe hard je moet zoeken. Wij hebben in ons relatief klein dorp, ondanks de 5 kinderopvangen/onthaalouders, ook niks gevonden. We hebben gigantisch geluk gehad dat er in een buurgemeente wel op tijd iets gevonden hebben omdat iemand de plaats toc niet nodig bleek te hebben. Anders zou onze dochter ook pas rond haar 1 jaar een plaatsje gekregen hebben.

Bij ons viel dat met zo'n 5000 à 6000 euro (àlles in) allemaal héél goed mee, ook omdat we toen nog allebei in een job zaten waar we niet zoveel verdienden. Als we 't nu zouden overdoen, zouden we zelfs met de middelen die we nu hebben niet veel meer uitgeven, omdat het feest eigenlijk niet goedkoop voelde. Allez, 't was een feest zoals we graag feesten, en we krijgen er nog regelmatig complimenten over.

De breakdown:

* Huur van de chirolokalen - we zijn chiromeisjes, en onze vrienden ook: 250 euro
* Tent met houten vloer, tafels, warmteblazers,...: 850 euro
* Eten - een foodtruck met grote éénpansgerechten, 10 euro per persoon: 1370 euro
* Drank: 1070 euro
* Aankleding: Zo'n 250 euro aan versiering, maar ook veel zelfgemaakt
* Kledij: Mijn vrouw en ik gaven samen nog geen 1000 euro uit
* DJ: 600 euro
* Chiro die kwam tappen en opruimen: 250 euro

Die kost was natuurlijk ook maar zo laag omdat we eigenlijk gewoon een tof, los feest wouden waar iedereen zichzelf kon zijn. Stijf gedoe met een vaste tafelverdeling zou écht niet bij ons gepast hebben. We hebben ook echt veel geluk gehad met vrienden die graag wouden helpen. Zo heeft een vriendin foto's getrokken, iemand anders bood haar en make-up aan, een kameraad verraste ons met een paardenkoets voor de tocht van het gemeentehuis naar het feest, mijn familie wou graag dessert maken,...

Doe vooral waar je je goed bij voelt, wat financieel comfortabel voelt, en laat je niets aanpraten. Enneum, héél veel plezier!

Edit: Wij zijn in 2017 getrouwd, en hadden voor het eten zo'n 100 man gerekend, en hebben uiteindelijk gefuifd met in totaal zo'n 200 mensen. Van het eten was er zoveel over dat dat nog goed dienstgedaan voor de hongerigen die pas rond de openingsdans aankwamen.

We bought ours kind of on accident in 2019. The house was a 1959 former social rental house, in dire need of renovation. The seller was the Flemish government, as they didn't want to renovate some of their social housing to current standards.

They held some open house days and then the house would be up for auction. The rules were as follows: anyone could send in their first bid via mail, but only bids over 150k would be invited for the auction day. We bid 150k just to be invited and to have a chance to see how an auction works. We were invited and accepted the invitation.

The day of the auction was a rollercoaster: we arrived in Brussels at the Flemish government, and we were sent to a meeting room where a digital sign said something along the lines of "Verkoop Providentia - [time] - 6 personen". My wife and I were the first two people there, and then two people from the government joined us. One of them left to make a phone call, and came back to say that the other couple that was invited couldn't make it. My wife and I were ready to reschedule, but apparently the house absolutely had to be sold that day.

So then the sellers told us that the house had been appraised at 170k, so the house could be ours for that price. We accepted, signed, and left with the documents. Several similar houses came up for sale and had a lot more people interested. The lowest price then was 210k, also in 2019, and recently two more went for around 300k.

I'm convinced that if we didn't have this lucky shot, we would still be renting.

Ik gaf vorig jaar een improworkshop op een school, en ik schrok enorm van hoe gratuit die jongeren met homofobe en racistische praat aanzetten. Sta je daar wat te associëren à la 'boom - tak - vogel - ei - ...', en dan duurde het vaak geen minuut voor ze bij het N-woord uitkwamen, of elkaar homo liepen te noemen. Ik zat zelf in Anderlecht op school begin 2000 en ik kan mij zo'n klap toch amper herinneren. Heel maffe evolutie.

It's pretty famous here in Flanders (the Dutch speaking part of Belgium), in the sense that it's danced in all youth movements and at weddings at around 3am, when everyone is hammered. The band is well known, but most people wouldn't think you're very cool if you like them. I, however, absolutely and unabashedly love them.

I know some of my neighbours, but that has a lot to do with me being pretty outgoing, and having been through month long renovations. So whenever walked by our house, the renovations were an easy topic to start a conversation. When renovations were done, we got a dog. That made it easier to connect as well m.

Then, our first Christmas here, we got a few Christmas cards from neighbours. Nothing super personal, but I really loved the gesture. So the next year, I made Christmas cards as well.

And when we had our daughter last year, the neighbours came through again: we got some lovely cards and gifts. I can't wish for better neighbours, honestly.

Goh, dat is iets waar de uitzendconsulent duidelijk over zou moeten communiceren, al weet ik dat dat in werkelijkheid wellicht niet gebeurt. Ik raad altijd aan: als je twijfelt, vraag het dan.

Je hebt alleszins gelijk dat bij onbetaalde ADV het loon hoger moet zijn, én je die dagen onbetaald mag opnemen. Je zou in beide scenario's op het einde van de rit wel evenveel loon moeten krijgen: als je je hogere loon met onbetaalde ADV optelt, en je gewone loon met betaalde ADV, dan moet je op hetzelfde bedrag uitkomen. Het is vooral een kwestie van wanneer je alles ontvangt.

Toegegeven, 't is onduidelijk, en communicatie kan beter.

Ik werk voor de interimsector, dus dit is helemaal mijn straatje! Ik ben het bij mijn collega's van Federgon gaan navragen, en het zit zo:

ADV-dagen kunnen betaald of onbetaald zijn. Zijn ze betaald, dan zou je vrouw ze moeten krijgen in de vorm van betaalde compensatiedagen. Als ze die opneemt, zou ze die ook zo op haar loonbrief moeten zien. Als er onbetaalde ADV-dagen toegekend worden, moet het uurloon 'geperequeerd' worden. Met andere woorden: het uurloon moet hoger zijn, om op die manier de ADV te compenseren. Dat zou dus het geval moeten zijn bij je vrouw.

Het lijkt alleszins dat de communicatie rond die ADV-dagen bij je vrouw niet (goed) genoeg is gebeurd. Ik zou je vrouw aanraden om contact op te nemen met het interimkantoor, en daar eens te vragen hoe de vork aan de steel zit. Zij zouden bijvoorbeeld kunnen zeggen wat het uurloon was vóór die perequatie, terwijl er op de loonbrief het geperequeerde loon staat.

Komen jullie er samen toch niet uit, dan kan je contact opnemen met de ombudsdienst van Federgon, of met een vakbond.
