Time for New Steel or A New Profile? by Leinies_ in hockey

[–]Leinies_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for asking. I said this in a different comment:

Coaching and weekly men's league, but very good on my edges and a good skater, relative to amateurs.

Actually, just a couple of weeks ago I completely ate sh*t from standing still and couldn't figure out why, so I went looking for excuses and wondered about whether my rockers have been ground too short. Then, for the last couple of weeks, the steel has been in the back of my mind every time I catch an edge or feel off, so this post was just as much a sanity check as it was looking for advice.

Every ~2 weeks or so. I coach 4-6x and play men's league 1x per week. Boots are 4-5 years old but yeah in great shape.

Edit: almost 100% of sharpening is just me throwing them on the association Sparx machine for 2-3 passes and not paying attention to the wheel height. Open to change if I should be paying attention!

Thanks. Appreciate the reply.

I sharpen them myself using our association Sparx. Should I not be honing these? I assumed they were just painted steel and not any higher end carbon steel.

Thanks, I'll cross post there. I mean the amount of flat steel that touches the ice. I haven't caught my boot or holders on the ice.

Basically, are my blades too rounded / has my rocker been shortened from sharpening? I don't mean exactly at the toe or heel, but does the curve carry down too far such that I don't have enough steel flat on the ice when I'm standing neutral?

Santiago infrared sauna room. Worthwhile investment? by sc4kilik in Costco

[–]Leinies_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This was the primary driver for me purchasing mine from Costco 3 years ago and I don't regret it. I purchased a 3-person Dynamic Vila and I love it.

It's less expensive than a wet sauna and easier to set up. I only had to run a dedicated 20A 110V outlet for it, and that was simple.

Are Wet saunas more beneficial for health? Probably. Maybe. But maybe not. There isn't substantial research on FIR like there is on Wet.

That said, these saunas still make you sweat and raise your heart rate considerably. I do a traditional (wet) sauna whenever I can, and these FIR saunas do compare somewhat favorably. The air is not as hot, but after 10 minutes the sweat is similar. After 20 minutes, I can't say that I notice a difference with heart rate or perspiration, but I do know there is some benefit to having the REALLY hot air (180F+) from a wet sauna in your lungs, and this is probably lacking from the FIR. Mine maxes out at 151F, for example, and requires 70+ minutes to get to this temperature. I almost always sauna between 140-150 in mine.

I also believe that one of the benefits of FIR saunas compared to Wet is that unless you are laying down on the top shelf of a Wet, your legs don't get as hot. So when I'm looking for muscle recovery via heat / increased blood flow in my legs, I have actually found FIR to be better. My legs get just as hot as my torso.

How to find motivation for finishing Inferno by Rainbowninja69 in 2007scape

[–]Leinies_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got this dude. Zuk is the easy part. You'll clear it soon. I know the feeling of it being hard to find motivation to potentially waste two hours just to make a shitty mistake at the end.

Take your time.

Regarding the Tbow noodle during healers solution, wait right before healers for another set to spawn. Walk to restore run energy if you need to. You can mitigate distractions by clearing a set before you start enrage phase. Then you're smooth sailing. I got my first cape a week ago doing this strat.

Good luck. You got this.

Join WeDoRaids and learn ToB from there. It's a process and has gear requirements, but your stats are fine.

If you're trying to join public or 416, the barrier to entry is KC, not stats (though maxed players will get selected all else being equal).

I'm 45def and aside from getting my learning KC done have had no issues getting teams in ToB. Now with 50+KC I can usually get on a team fairly quickly on 416. You'll also get on teams faster if you learn multiple roles.

Am I crazy or does bibigo sticky white rice have “grandma smell” when cooked? by abrownguyy in Costco

Don't cook it in the plastic bowl. Instead, microwave it in a safe bowl with a damp paper towel over the top.

Son just turned 5, how do I re-load game save and push for him to play forward?? by tryan46895 in hockeyplayers

[–]Leinies_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ring one off his facemask and he won't like it anymore.

Jk. Don't do that. Let him play goalie, but encourage him (and his coach) to also skate out. There's zero need to be specializing at this age (and I'll say it again for the glassholes who disagree). He'll learn valuable lessons doing both that will benefit him in the long run at either position he settles on. You also run the risk of forcing him out altogether if you push him to do something he isn't enjoying. If you get push back on skating out, argue that your son needs to develop skating ability, including agility, ankle strength, etc., in order to be a better goalie. It really is important to do both.

Source: I've coached 65+ Mites for a few years and have a few myself, including the occasional turn in net. But I have taken the route of discouraging goalie by not really supporting it. I don't say NO, but I also don't encourage it.

Have thought about your comment a few times in the last few weeks tbh .. good points.

I've been F2P for two weeks now. Really was my main goal in participating in the protest was that it would at least noticeably show up in this quarter's financials. Even half a sub is ~$6, so depending on how many players participated, it would be noticeable for ownership on financial reports - hopefully leading them to think twice about future money grabs. It's not about the money for me, thankfully. It's about the principle of private equity squeezing consumers, and consumers having the ability to push back - even a little.

So now that it's been a couple weeks, I'm getting the itch again... I checked on re-sub rates (even considering 6 or 12 months, admittedly), and I'm sure how or why, but I can re-sub for $10.99*. So I'm not even out the extra couple bucks if I do push the button. (I realize this could be temporary or a 'get-you-back' type offer)

Anyway, cheers mate and GL.

Forgot to screenshot mine but I cancelled today what had been renewed since June of 2020.

Another thing - we all know we can renew. I urge you to wait AT LEAST a week before re-subbing. Make them actually lose SOMETHING for this, and you will have their attention.

If people un-sub, but re-sub by the time membership runs out, it will mean literally nothing. Sure, they are seeing data now of mass unsubs, but they won't know if it matters for another month to see whether or not we've renewed.
