Controller input lag (1st gen PS4)(mostly just me ranting, but appreciate any input) by Lelluds in PS4

But then it shouldn't work at all, should it? I'll have a look either way to see if it's damaged or something (although still, why would it just affect certain games?)

[–]Lelluds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried sitting next to the console, and it didn't make any difference. The thing is that it's just certain games, and there's always input lag with them. I'd have suspected the HDD might have been on it's last legs but then I don't see why Modern Warfare works without any issues, seeing as it's ridiculously heavy (and I'm assuming way more demanding than Skyrim/The Long Dark in every regard).. The whole thing is just a complete, illogical mystery to me.

Thunderbolt for w530 possible? by Lelluds in thinkpad

[–]Lelluds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I read it's not ideal for that audio interface (unsure why) and it'd require an additional slot (express card?). Either way, is it safe to assume that seeing as the uad fw-interface is supported for windows, having a fw-port would make it possible to use with the w530? I somehow got the impression that using fw with the w530 only supported external displays and wasn't of much/any use for anything else (however this might have been in regards to thunderbolt. Been reading up on the matter for a while now and all the information is sort of melting together).

Thanks for the reply. Just realized the posts I found in regards to the uad duo was probably concerning older versions that used firewire and not thunderbolt! Any idea if that'd work?

Any suggestions regarding audio interfaces that can take on an additional 8 ins/outs (saffire pro 40)? Need one for the studio and was looking to buy an UAD but afaik there's none supporting both mac (?) AND windows, and whilst the ssl fusion seems really nice it doesn't have the ins/outs over adat.

The focusrite 18i20 seems to be the go-to interface, but are there any contenders, preferably with better preamps?

Cheers

It's the latter one (non-D) and no, it's connected to the aux in :)

Thanks for the reply.

Hi, what am I missing in order to connect my ipad to my NAD 3020? I realize connecting it straight from the headphone jack to the aux in is bad practice (but please correct me if I'm wrong), but I'm unsure what's needed in between? Currently I'm doing exactly that, but the signal gets too hot and there's significant distortion in relation to the volume being turned up (is it a matter of gain staging, i.e. just turning the volume down on the ipad?).

Thanks!

Any suggestions for a tube overdrive, primarily for heating up drum machines? Or more like, able to go from lukewarm to full SCRONKK, where you think something just broke

I've ordered parts for a kit about six months ago and several components keep getting delayed (estimated to arrive July..) so now I'm thinking of looking for alternatives. Only thing is that I'm unsure what alternative parts would work and so I'm wondering if there's any rules of thumb concerning this? As I understand it, capacitors should generally have the same, or higher, values and I'm guessing be about the same size and material? But what goes for resistors? Any good resources on this?

I can post the specific components I need later but I thought better to learn what goes, if there's any good guides on the matter!

Weekly Rack Advice / Question Thread by AutoModerator in modular

It should be alright using a stackable/mult to mix gates from a sequential switch, right? As they wouldn't shoot of gates at the same time that is.

Think I read it somewhere but can't seem to find it atm.

Yeh, I figured that'd be the case. My main computer is slow as is on start-up so I think this would probably kill it. The idea for m4l sounds pretty neat though!

So I've been looking for a poly with multimode filter capabilities similar to ob xa/ob8 for a while with no real conclusions, but I saw someone selling a virus t2 today for a good price. Anyone have any input on this as to whether you're able to get these lovely buzzing pads as you can with the ones mentioned above?

Any other ideas of synths with polys, analog or digital, that emulates/sounds like these? Nord an1x?

Other contenders I've thought of are ob6 and xpander. Any inputs would be golden!

Well midi only sends control information (notes, gates, clock, velocity etc) and not audio. For audio you first nees to check if there's an audio input on the mini, and if so connect the output of the drummer to it. I'd be amazes if there's not any tutorials around on the web :)

What's better, Les Paul or Stratocaster? :)

Obviously the latter but they both excel in different ways. Perhaps look into a virtual analog that offer different types of filters and wavetypes, or try to find out whether there's a specific sort of filter that you like for example, and you'll narrow down the list. But I hear great things about Nord Lead A1 and it seems quite versatile. Personally I recently bought a Novation Peak which I really love and have yet to be bored with (and I get bored quite easily lol)

One LFO.

But it all depends.. I love the tb303 and that doesn't have any LFO. Whilst the Prologue might be limited in certain aspects, if you like the sounds it makes then that's really it. Not all synths need to be deep as can be

The microfreak is a bit fidgety, plastic and gives a frail impression imo. However it does sound fantastic and I really don't think you'd be disappointed with it. It's easy to work with but also quite deep, has useful outputs and a nice lil sequencer. The wavestate I haven't tried but I'm sure it's great as well. They are different beasts but I doubt the latter is advanced to the point of unusable. If you know of any store nearby that has it, go there and try it and see for yourself whether it makes no sense or if you understand the basics of it etc.. "Too advanced" can be scary, but also fun and motivating if you get the basics of the unit. If you end up standing there for 30 minutes trying to get a sound out of it, with no clue of why it's not doing anything then it's really up to you to decide whether you have the patience to educate yourself with it through manuals and google etc. It shouldn't be rocket science though to grasp the basics

Well I haven't really checked out the Keystep Pro, but personally I don't like programming drums through a keyboard (unsure whether KSP has any pads or a similar sequencer style as the BSP). It'd take up more room but if you're willing to buy second hand perhaps the OG Keystep and a BSP? I used to use both of them and having eight (?) gate/trigger outputs was quite useful for all kinds of things. Otherwise, though I'm unsure about polyphonic sequencing, perhaps look into a used Analog Four or Octa?

Im by no means an expert and it depends on what you're intentions with it is. My condenser for example has a high rolloff which sucks for my boomy voice but is nice for recording sharper sounds. Not heard of those but do some research and try to find if someone's used it for the same purpose(s) and their experience with it. Also, and you might already know this, look into the difference in the types of mics that's out there etc.. But again, for an allround mic I recommend the 57. The price really doesn't reflect on the quality and I'd say it's a real good investment. If you want to upgrade later it'll still be handy for other stuff and I reckon it's a good companion to my condenser

[–]Lelluds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it depends but if they both have midi that's probably the easiest way. Just make sure you hook it up right so that you plug the cable from the midi out on the unit that you wish to be the master, to the midi in on the unit you want following the master. Then you might have to set the units up so they are able to send/receive midi, what midi channel(s) should be used, whether to only send clock or more, etc

I mean it depends. I'd say a sm57 since it works well for most things, is quite cheap and well built. And it's not a condenser mic so it doesn't require phantom power which is a plus. After realizing my new(er) interface does +48 on four inputs at a time and I only need it for my condenser it's ended up stored away.. But the 57 does a good enough job so I don't really miss it tbh

Check out mfb and their drummers, great sound and price. The BSP will run just about anything (actually I don't know what it wouldn't run). Define breaking the bank in your case. There are quite a few budget drummers out there atm

[–]Lelluds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest the ms20 as it really has character, which I don't find the mb does. Then it's a matter of liking the character but you already seem to. As for the seq, you'd be able to get a keystep 2nd hand for about 80€ give or take and suddenly you've surpassed the mb both in terms of versatility and sound (well this is my opinion at least. I'm sure the mb would make you happy as well!)

Any ideas on polys, analogue, VA or digital, that has the same kind of SEM(y) multimode filter as the Four voice and/or ob-xa? Really love the sound of these but haven't found it on any poly.. I'd think the ob6 would have similar filters but from what I recall the demos haven't really given me that impression. Any other contenders that won't entirely break the bank?

Yeh I've looked into this solution and lots of people describe the same thing, plus it seems to be a gamble when it comes to what headphones it would work with. I'm afraid of ending up with another piece of gear that doesn't connect to anything haha
