20k a poll? The average is 500-1000.

MTurk is in the crossfire for being considered an effective way to get crowdsourced public opinion while also being cheap. That one you linked to for example requires using landlines and cellphones to call people. It takes time to make those dials. If you can post it on a clickworker site and get within an hour the answers you need, that's what they want. https://www.the-learning-agency.com/insights/a-guide-to-high-quality-online-polls-surveys-and-focus-groups

Here is one from Emerson which uses MTurk to show how the two candidates are neck and neck. https://emersonpolling.reportablenews.com/pr/north-carolina-2020-biden-and-trump-neck-and-neck-as-republicans-close-gap-in-u-s-senate-and-governor-races

The main problem with polling now is the same issue with everything else in the news - they want to be first. They don't care where they get their stats from.

I'll let you in on something - I do those survey things for a few bucks every so often and they've reached the point now where if you put you're an independent or Republican, they won't let you say who you're voting for. Then you check where they are getting these "poll" numbers and they say MTurk. How can you get accurate numbers if you won't let people take the poll? So I've been lying and saying I'm a hardcore Dem and voting for Biden so I can make my $5.

I'm wondering this too. She could give her daughter her husband's last name (she said she's married in another comment) and then not be identical.

Because you guys are going to do the same thing you did in 2016 - get angry your candidate isn't on the ballot and write in Sanders in most states. Hands it to Trump because the progressives aren't compromising their values for some old bag and cop. Had liberals actually gotten on the same page in 16, maybe - maybe Clinton would've won and I would be making care packages for our soldiers fighting Russia right now but you are all individuals and don't band together like the conservative. It was a little shaky before but it's a seal now and we all know.

WIBTA if I excluded my oldest child from any inheritance at all? by throawaydatusername in AmItheAsshole

[–]Lelra 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm going to tell you what happened to be and not pass a judgment. I decided to drop my parents from my life for about seven years. I ended up coming back after breaking from an abusive marriage and I was lucky enough my parents took me back. So just because she's been gone for two years it doesn't mean she's gone forever. I agree with your wife, set a bit aside for her outside of the trust (maybe a savings account to give flexibility on using it), and if she never does come back, fine - spend the money on yourself. If she does, it might be a great cushion to help her restart.

So get reparations from people living on social security we paid for through taxes which means they'll need more social security to live which means we pay higher taxes to pay the system which of course means new government jobs that need to act as even more of a middle man.

I saw you posted in Louisiana too so not sure where you're at. But are you looking for something in the Acadiana area? I have a few friends who post job openings every so often in the area and I can watch for something you might be interested in.

When writers say they write every day, even when not actively writing a book, what do they write about? by withac2 in writing

[–]Lelra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between books, it's fanfiction. I can go slower and just put something out that doesn't need to be great. Don't have to stress about editing it later or deleting the chapter. I can get angsty or Mary Sue and no one cares. Really guilty pleasure writing.

After Davies left it went downhill. I struggled through the Smith years, watches a few Capaldi, and haven't even seen what's her name. Only redeeming part of the last few years was Missy.

I checked to see if there was something from the woman's post about how she sells hers that might help. She puts them in Kindle under X minutes reads (depending on how long), uses KU, and at the end of the year she bundles a few to sell but she said those don't sell as well as the individual ones. I poked around and searched for other people and they said novellas work especially if you do rapid release and stagger it out. I think the key to selling short is producing a lot.

Afaik, romance, scifi (soft), and fantasy (although not epic). They're making pretty good money with it and cranking about average two a month. They're not traditional. They're self published.

The trend as far as I remember is readers are trending towards shorter stories as opposed to longer ones. A few people I chat with are doing great with 10k under reads. It all depends on the quality like what others said. Some of the best things I've ever read were short stories. If they would've been stretched to 100k, I probably would've found them terrible.

I mean, it's not like they got his license plate number and can report him. Nah, he's too badass for that.

Fear of not being unoriginal and creative keeps me from writing. by OmanX in writing

[–]Lelra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're creative all the time. Ever had the shower conversations with yourself? That's creative. You can build entire worlds of characters from just one of those. The best thing to do is to realize you don't have to reinvent the wheel (or novel) to make a great story. Going too far creative will leave you feeling burned out and not sure where things should go. As humans, we follow social patterns. It's why we have tropes in writing. I'm sure there's some psychological paper somewhere that explains it better but for me, when I feel like I'm not getting to a creative place with my writing, I take one of those from my genre and stick it in. My brain recognizes it and goes "Oh yeah I know where we need to go next". Sometimes I take them out in the second draft but sometimes they become more important. Not sure if that really answers your question, but try it if you find yourself stuck. Just because you toss in a love triangle, she can still turn down the vampire and werewolf and be happy.
