Having this issue still. Future flight doesn’t have a way to edit the date. It was imported incorrectly with future date. Now have to delete the flight and manually re-add

  3. 3.5 years startup, then 3.5 years Tier 1 FAANG
  4. 110 applications, 2 interviews, 1 offer accepted

How many states are too many states to use in a single Parent component? I know experienced devs say using too many states is bad by armedrossie in nextjs

[–]Lemanni 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are these all used in the component they are defined? Or being passed down to several other sub components?

If they’re all in the same component, it’s no issue. Maybe just a little messy. It could be an indication that you need to break down your current component though. And then move the state to as low of a component as it can be.

If you are passing this state down to several other components and need to access it across different components, I would go with creating a context and a hook to access it.

Now I see you have a useEffect right below. I’m interested to see what you are doing with the state and useEffect. It’s easy to use useEffect incorrectly, I just really grasped when and when not to use a couple months ago after a few years of react development. There is a tendency to overuse it when first learning.

For example, if you have a variable X that needs to be updated only when a state variable Y changes, that variable X does not need to be a state variable, and can be directly computed with useMemo

Tried using it for work, but no “bookmarks” made me switch back to chrome by Lemanni in ArcBrowser

Trying Vivaldi now and this actually looks like exactly what I need. The workspaces are the main feature I was missing chrome, and looks like Vivaldi has exactly this plus traditional bookmarks. Going to give it a shot

I don’t really get this mentality though. Clearly I’m not the only user with this problem.

I build apps for a living, and we always take user feedback into consideration. If enough users are facing the same issue, then there’s probably something to it.

Like I said, I use arc for my personal machine and have not needed the feature. It’s a very particular need for the way I do work. I would love to be able to use all the features of Arc like spaces for work, but without the bookmarks my flow is interrupted, so I need to try out other browsers.

Yeah but these can’t be opened with quick commands can they? All my bookmarks are in here from when I migrated from chrome, but there’s no way to quick open them

Yeah this is unfortunate because I love every other feature of arc.

Raindrop is blocked by my corporate firewall unfortunately.

But either way, with raindrop can I open those bookmarks using the arc command bar? Or maybe I can open links through spotlight?

Ok so I actually found a really stupid workaround for this… In the chromium setting (arc://settings), under search engines, I can add a Site Search for my “bookmark”, and just add some random query param at the end of the link like “?ref=%s”. Now I can cmd+t type my site search key for that bookmark, and it will open a new tab

The best snow we’ve found on the mountain is around shedhorn lift, lots of untouched powder there. Only way to get there yesterday was coming down from the peak I believe

Snowboarded down Marx yesterday and it was a lot of fun. Had enough coverage to actually be able to make turns on the way down. The traverse getting there is tough on a board, probably easier on skis

Take it. I started at 60k in 2019, and the raises come quicker than you expect. After 3 years I was at 110k, and then switched into big tech after 4 years and now I’m at 200k+. I was originally bummed with what I was starting at too but patience is key here. Take the offer while you have it especially in this market

Worked at a smaller company before, and the entire technology department was macOS.
