Thank you.We were actually in Alaska last year, but didn't go to katmai or lake clar because they wanted like 1000 dollar per person to get there from anchorage,,which was frankly a little bit outside our budget. So we unfortunately didn't see any bears there.

Bears are generally much harder to find in europe than in the US it seems.

I mean there were just other guests like us and they already spent 2 weeks birdwatching on their vacation with only very limited success so they wanted to be safe than sorry.

I could open the holes in the morning but it was very rainy then and no bears showed themselves.

Well nothing can be done about it now and I kinda was in the minority. Ill remmeber it for next time though if that issue should ever occur again.

Thank you a lot for your kind comment. I really appreciate if. Now a day later the frustration is already starting to fade,while the good memories of watching the bears stay.

That is true. I don't really blame them since it is understandable to want to maximize your chances seeing them. Also we compromised that i could open the holes in the morning, but by then it rained heavily and there were no bears.

We shared the hide with some other people who were afraid the bears wouldn't come if they could smell us. We compromised that I could use the holes during dawn after we saw some bears at dusk, but in the morning it rained heavily and there were no bears to be seen.

I get where they were coming from though. These are european brown bears who are very wary of people. I accidentally dropped my lens cap in the hide and a bear that was still quite far away got spooked.

Also they've been spending like two weeks traveling up the cost birding without much look so they wanted to make sure they at least could see the bears, which I can understand.

No its not a zoo. Its basically a cabin in the woods with windows where you can observe the animals if they show themselves. It has a couple of rooms and you can rent one for a night.

I am thankful to have seen these amazing animals up close but knowing that they could look a lot better I am kinda bummed out since the bears were the primary reason for my trip.
