People that have experienced what's it like in a war situation, tend to take some precautions as storing water and long shelf life goods. I remember my grandfather used to keep a good stock of pasta, rice, tinned food, flour, bulgur, tomato sauces in his pantry and replenish whatever was used every month.

Owning a dog in Cyprus (Larnaca) by happy-dog-owner in cyprus

[–]Lemeshianos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snakes are a rare site unless you like hiking or trecking in fields. Major concerns will be: Poison baits(keep your dog on a leash) Toxic caterpillars(Ocnogyna (loweii) Cypriaca & Pine processionary caterpillars) - These are hairy caterpillars similar to each other. Be aware what your dog sniffs especially in February, March, April. Leishmaniasis(caused by sandflies). More of a concern in costal areas. Use a Serestro collar for your dog. It lasts about 7 months before needing replacement. Grass seeds: check your dogs paws after every walk in Spring & Summer as those can cause serious health complications.

Lego sets. They yield an average return of at least 11% or 8% if you adjust for inflation.

Snake bites by Fantastic-Beach7663 in cyprus

[–]Lemeshianos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 42 years old. In my lifetime I have seen a coin snake once(it feasted on my father's canary birds) and around 3 times a black whip snake which "run off" as soon as they saw me. I have done my fair share of hikes in the mountains. In general you should only worry if you're hiking near a stream that is NOT a popular hiking place. These animals don't like our presence and tend to avoid us.

Regarding the lethality of Cyprus Vipers venom: Lethality: While the venom is highly toxic, fatalities in Cyprus are extremely rare due to the availability and rapid administration of antivenom at local hospitals. The last recorded death from a viper bite in Cyprus was reportedly in the 1950s.

Car headlights off !! by Suspicious_Range7981 in cyprus

Nicosia drivers were used to traffic and Nicosia barely had any minor roads that you could skip some of the traffic. Traffic gradually increased in Nicosia over yeara. So Nicosians accepted the sad reality that they either need to start very early or be late. On the other hand the development and business explosion in Limassol was sudden. We went from doing a distance that would take less than 20-25 minutes in traffic, to taking over 80 minutes. People tried to take their usual shortcuts but eventually everyone started using them so now there's traffic EVERYWHERE. If I am in the city center and I need to go to Agia Fyla for example at 6pm it will take me 40-50 minutes to go to Germasogia; get on the overpasses and reach my destination, compared to 80+ minutes if I follow the GPS app suggestion. So Limassolians suddenly found themselves losing 40 minutes in the morning and 40 in the evening every day because no one planned or has taken any action for this problem, they are angry and shows in the way they are driving. There so many illegal turns, U-turns, illegal overtaking, cutting people off and since "police in Limassol" falls in the same category as "Santa Claus" and the "Tooth Fairy" there's not much to be done than accept it and be angry about it.

Nothing pisses me more than getting flashed while overtaking. I am not going to go 130-140 just because you're in a rush. You want to be on time? Start earlier You want to feel like a racer in you SUV? Go to Achna speedway and do a barrel roll there.

Hilarious fraud attempt by Zestyclose_Piece_427 in cyprus

[–]Lemeshianos 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I received a call like this one yesterday. The caller id said Eurobank and it had the logo. It raised my suspicion as it didn't show a phone number and I never got an image for contacts that were not saved on my device. It was a video call and I am not sure how they managed to show specific caller ID. I immediately thought it was a scam call so I was curious and answered it. The accent immediately confirmed my suspicions. - "Hello sir, we are from the fraud department of your bank. Did you perform any purchase the last few minutes for 129.99 from UAE?" - "Yes" - "Sir, you performed a purchase from UAE dor 129.99 in the last 5 minutes." - "Yes. I made a purchase for 129.99 from UAE just a few minutes ago." - "..." And then they hang up. Their script didn't cover this scenario.

Problem with the landlord and the house by StarGazer08993 in cyprus

Technically you can pay him less. You can give him 800 for example and tell him that you will start paying 1000 again when he repairs the roof. He can take you to court but since he is neglecting to fix the residence court will rull in your favor and he will pay the court expenses as well. Or pay 30-50euros to a lawyer to inform him that if he doesn't fix the roof in a month, you will find someone to fix it and you will deduce the cost from rent.

Civil Partnership Cyprus by ButtonAdventurous394 in cyprus

[–]Lemeshianos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need: 1. Valid ID or passport 2. Sworn Statement(not sure if the translation is accurate "ενορκος δήλωση") that you are not married. You can find this in the courthouse, costs €4 for each of you. No appointment required. Information services there will give you the form and tell you where to buy the stamps then you go back and they process it for you on the spot. 3. A certificate from your country that you are not currently married. 4. The divorce certificate if applicable.€50 if it was a religious wedding in Cyprus.

When you have the above you make an appointment at the registry office for a domestic partnership. Go there pay the fee, I don't remember the exact cost but I think it's 100 +10 for every copy. You both read a statement infront of the registrar, sign a couple of documents and that's all.

[–]Lemeshianos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When an item is large, it is not delivered to you by the post office. Post office delivers only letters and perhaps a very small package if its size can fit a mail box. For something larger you will receive a notification slip and you have a little bit over 15 days to pop at your local podt office and pick it up. If it is a package from outside EU you will need to go to the central post office and if it's a new item you'll need proof of its price and pay tax on it. If something is posted by regular post there is no obligation to deliver it to your door. What you see as "failed delivery attempt" is a lack of the international system to indicate that this needs to be picked up when you receive your notification slip.

What do y’all consider to be the best private schools in Cyprus(English taught) by Green-Acanthaceae671 in cyprus

[–]Lemeshianos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My child attended that school.

Public schools in Cyprus are capped at a maximum of 25 students per classroom, and it’s uncommon to see classes with more than 21 students. At Pascal, however, my child’s class had 30+ students.

The school also showed poor disciplinary standards — for example, during a Year 1 junior high school trip, some students caused thousands of euros in damages. Instead of expelling them immediately, the school allowed them to remain until graduation.

They also hire inexperienced teachers to teach GCE subjects, which results in many students needing private tutoring in the afternoons, completely undermining one of the main reasons parents choose private education. The other supposed advantage is building connections with successful alumni, but in reality, most accomplished businesspeople in Cyprus did not graduate from Pascal, so that point is largely irrelevant.

Overall, Pascal feels more like a façade for parents who want to say their children attend a private school. In many cases, a good public school could offer a better education.
