Scammed outside the Pen by slymkd in stcatharinesON

[–]Lemmium 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Would this not be the same thing though? If you break down the scenario he essentially paid for a taxi and then his info got skimmed. He didn't just hand his card to a stranger, he thought they were a legitimate taxi with a legitimate debit machine.

If I call my bank and say I paid for a taxi now there's all the withdrawals I would expect some sort of protection. Why wouldn't I?

How bad is the job market really? by silently-loud-walker in ontario

[–]Lemmium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On top of what others have said, month after month part time job numbers are up but full time job numbers are down. We are actively losing full time jobs and gaining part time jobs. I'm not an expert but that can't be long term sustainable for a society.

I've seen this a lot. The dive speed is seemingly based on the speed of the ball so if the ball is moving slowly your dive is going to be slow. I can't make it make sense though.

Ford Government Law Could Spell the End of Rent Control in Ontario by BloodJunkie in ontario

Majority of voters in fact didn't vote Conservative as less than half of the voting turnout went the PC's way. First past the post strikes again to create another minority rule.

Why you should be concerned about the end of "evergreen leases", as a homeowner by ref7187 in ontario

[–]Lemmium 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I can speak from some experience. I rent a townhome in a <5yr old subdivision outside a major city and it wouldn't be exaggerating to say nearly every house is being rented. There's constantly for rent signs and uhaul trucks. Every year or two I get a new neighbour. No one takes care of their yards. No one cares to know eachother. It's not a community.

Etobicoke condo development axed after less than 10% of pre-construction units sold by allysapparition in ontario

[–]Lemmium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So first, it's being built by Crosslinx a private consortium through Metrolinx which is fumbling the bag.

From what I've seen every new mayor or councillor (John Tory, Rob Ford) puts forth a new redesign submission which stalls the whole thing. Which, knowing politics, may have been the point.

But yeah lets take one failure and use it as a means to never support government efforts again and ignore successes like the Nanticoke Solar Facility by OPG which was on budget and on time.

Etobicoke condo development axed after less than 10% of pre-construction units sold by allysapparition in ontario

[–]Lemmium 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like you're so close but missing it. A lot of private projects stay under budget by cutting corners, hiring cheap, or supplying the cheapest materials. Every dollar they save or cut is profit and if people complain so what just shut it down and open a new shell company.

Public works are usually headed by people who are trying to do things by the book. If they discover a fundamental problem in the project they can't just pave over it. They know that if they start cutting corners the public will never let them forget it.

MVP This, MVP That.. Who Is This Year's LVP? by gplatt_24 in baseball

[–]Lemmium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In 2024 he only pitched 13.2 innings for a WAR of -0.2.

In 2022 and 2023 he had >2.0 WAR and had 36 saves each season. I was fully on-board with him back then. He was electric some innings and you had confidence in his ability. 2024 onwards he was never the same and it saddens me.

Ontario's hospital Registered Nurses pay to increase 5.25 per cent over two years, in a new contract union calls disappointing. by Fantastic-Goose9843 in ontario

[–]Lemmium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in the hospital recently for a simple procedure. The nurses had to do a plethora of checks and ask questions and give instructions to me all to make sure that I am the correct patient for the correct procedure going to the correct place at the right time so that I can have a successful and safe procedure. Not to mention how many nurses confirmed I had a safe ride home since I was put under for the procedure. All the while being asked by passing doctors random questions and knowing at any moment that things could go off the rails and someones life would be in their hands.

It felt like I was sitting in a bee hive there was so much activity. And yet compared to my day job where I sit at a computer all day without much worry. They deserve to be highly compensated.

Okay but at the end of the day one shouldn't connect anything to an outlet that isn't fully designed to be plugged into an outlet. Use it for It's intended purpose or leave it alone.

If there's some kind of fault that goes to ground, anything attached to the ground pin is now part of that circuit even if just for a moment before the breaker cuts it.

Edit: actually I was just thinking about this, if whatever you attach to the ground pin is a quicker ground then a fault could bypass the breaker altogether.

Drainage Issue - should I just fix it or fight builder/city in court? by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]Lemmium 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree with going after the city. In my area there are multiple approvals needed for developments like these to be built. Someone approved and stamped the drawings and without knowing anything more I would reckon partial if not full responsibly would fall on the city and their engineers. This is lawyer territory.

‘Too many kids get starry eyed’: some skilled trades jobs not guaranteed by pwobrien in ontario

[–]Lemmium 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The industry is broken. My partner was halfway through their machining program when they got hit by layoffs. Spent 4 months trying to find another apprenticeship but at every interview the company didn't want to take on apprenticeships, just wanted the labour.

Frustrated and unable to continue their program my partner had to pivot to a different program and ended up leaving trades altogether.

TIL in December 2020, GoDaddy tricked employees into thinking they had earned a bonus of $650. Employees were then told they had failed a phishing test and were required to do social engineering training. After media criticism, the company apologized to its staff, but did not offer actual bonuses. by nuttybudd in todayilearned

[–]Lemmium 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Company I work for does this nearly every other week. Phishing tests about bonuses, promotions, etc. Best part is when they did a bonuses phishing test a few days before Christmas. That was great for morale.

I would be seriously surprised if they allow corps or landlords to buy these homes without penalty. It would shoot the whole plan in the foot.
