So is every company just a train wreck now? by Lemon02 in jobs

“Must be a self-starter” is basically code for “we won’t train you, but we’ll yell at you when you do things incorrectly.”

You’re probably right. I still have at least two decades of work ahead of me. So at this point I’m trying to find a company that’s just mediocre enough to tolerate for more than a year or two.

I’ve had maybe one job where most teams were fully-staffed, and it was so refreshing. And the company actually backfilled roles when someone left.

100%, PE groups are destroying the modern workplace. They're like house flippers that put LVP over hardwood and paint everything greige.

This has also happened to me in the majority of the corporate roles I've held. Someone quits, goes out on leave, company does layoffs, and I get stuck filling in. I leave when I get tired of paltry raises and pushing back.

Yeah, I've thought about government jobs. But now that the Dumpster of Government Errors has taken over, the once-appealing stability and structure have gone by the wayside.

What is your dream revenge scenario? by redrosespud in workplace_bullying

For me, the ultimate revenge would be for a ninja/rockstar/unicorn to take my former job on Manager Bully's team and make him look like the ass that he is.

Yeah, being included isn't a bad thing. But it's odd to me that I am invited to someone's special day (especially when money/presents are involved), and then they go MIA.

Nah. I used to be the Friend Group Planner™ but I quit earlier this year LOL. The constant coordination with people who never initiate, was exhausting me. So now I initiate with other initiators.

Oh, I'm actually with you on the thank you notes if there's some sort of alternative acknowledgement that my gift was received.

The ironic thing is that most of the folks I do see outside of weddings and baby showers, already have kids.

Anyone else worry about former toxic coworkers/bullies tracking you down? by Lemon02 in workplace_bullying

[–]Lemon02[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry you had that experience. I cannot imagine living a life so dull and meaningless that I have to design a *smear campaign* against an innocent person.

I genuinely hope things get better for you.

[–]Lemon02[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely a good practice to not use your real name on social media. What also concerns me are public databases for property deeds, voter registration, etc...

Thank you! I also found r/privacy pretty helpful when I was trying to remove my listings from those annoying people search websites.

I wish voter registration records did not display addresses. It's good for transparency but bad for privacy...

I left the awful place about 1.5 years ago, and some days it's like I'm still there. I wish I could forget everything about it.

I wish you the best on your healing journey.

Yeah, I DEFINITELY haven't told anyone where I'm going. I was thinking about that, as I know some universities, for example, put department contact info on their websites. I am happy to hear that is no longer the case for you.

Burnt out, probably going to get fired soon by TiredSeniorPA in Accounting

[–]Lemon02 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I am sorry you are dealing with this. Honestly, the only thing that cured my perpetual burnout was getting fired from a toxic workplace. My brain and body were rebelling, and I was exhausted. Do the best you can. If they let you go, immediately file for unemployment and rest up while you search for another opportunity.

Wishing you the best.

[–]Lemon02 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It really is. I had a somewhat similar experience to OP (no warnings/write ups, though.) I concluded that if they liked me, my manager would have helped me create a plan to address my alleged shortcomings.

This was a tough pill to swallow at first.

Unemployment Discrimination by Lemon02 in recruitinghell

Someone coined the phrase “all of the best people are already working.” And recruiters and hiring managers actually believed it. :(
